MarsMan: Most people automatically assume because that a product has a Bord Bia mark that it was born/raised/culled/processed in Ireland. Meat that is sourced from outside Ireland, but culled &/or processed here also carries a Bord Bia mark. To know for sure you have to look at the back of the packet for the numbers, any that begin with IE are fully traceable back to the source here in Ireland, anything that begins with E or EC has an origin outside of Ireland and went through some form of processing here. But how many people actually look at the back of the pack?
I didnt know that and will now start looking a bit closer...thanks

I do, but I know that most people even don't know about the existence of that code. Look at some of the cheeses with Irish towns names, they have a UK code.

UK bar codes start with 50 don't they or is that Ireland?
whitepaws: If i understand it the old advertisments they had in the eighties about "guaranteed Irish" are illegal but now we know if you buy a bord bio or what ever it is, that the meat is sourced here in ireland.... Aldi and lidl have loads of Irish brands easily identified .
Im in the process of moving over to O2 from Vodafone as there tarrif is not only a bit cheaper for me but they have an Irish based call centre and its not over in India(no harm to the Indians-there lovely people) ....

And take the carbon footprint and how something is produced into account.
A lot of people are not known for using their brains...
Just look where some of the food is produced, do we really need beans from Kenya and people starving in Africa? Or transporting beef and lamb from the other side of the world?
