Glengirl: I can't see them playing him, which will make an even bigger mockery of the whole thing.....if that's possible
it will be interesting to say the least, will he want to play against his own county, to be honest after saturday my mind has very much changed on the transfer, i think that brought our games to a level i don't want it to be at

For me, the events on Saturday changed it from an inter county thing....

I think he should be embarrassed and the two clubs involved should be embarrassed.

I am so not going to get into a internet donnybrook like last night but I think someone has to provide a few truths on the Seanie Johnston situation.
He did not "Leave" Cavan, Val Andrews the dub who was managing Cavan phoned him and told him he wasn't wanted on the Cavan panel.

Johnston had played football and trained with Kildare lads in College, he still wanted to play football at senior inter county level so he contacted them about playing football in kildare.

He gave all the required information to the CCCC and still they looked for more, the GAA even changed the rules of transfers to try and stop the chap playing football.

He is training with a club, St Kevins in Straffan. The only difference between Johnstons transfer and a hundred others is the Dublin media attention.
Ryan O Dwyer played hurling with Dublin before he ever played with the club he transferred from Cashel to play with.
I would prefer fifteen Kildare men on the field as we don't want to go the route of the dubs, and chances are Seanie won't even make the Kildare team, but what I don't get, is what is the problem with a chap wanting to play football? dunno

Stan, my answer to that is quite simple.....I'm a traditional girl at heart, meaning you play for your home club or county.

We have had "non nationals" play for Donegal, and for my club, but they did so because they were genuinely living and working in the area.

Where will it all end if every player that is dropped decides they will just go and play somewhere else? You fight for your place, you prove that the management was wrong to drop you.....

But in a world where people have to learn how to 'play' the media an own goal was scored.

For the record Stan many counties other than Dublin have used transferred players...normally they live and work in their new county as well as playing there.

The problem with this Stan is I think it has become too personal.

Personally I would agree with Glen and have no problem with someone working and residing in a county playing for that county. I used to hate it when Kilmacud and Ballybooden used to get all the 'culchie' players laugh when they moved to Dublin as they were traditionally 'country' clubs.

I think the Kildare county board has handled this badly and to be honest I don't think Seanie Johnston will have done the Kildare team any favours. Just my tuppence handshake

Oh, I know that, I'm just saying that the media attention at the beginning is what made this the mega story it has now become dunno

I read an article last week about a player that transferred from Roscommon to Leitrim (I think) and he's not living or working in Leitrim but it just all went through under the radar....

Just as an add on to this Stan I would hate it to become the norm as I think the county system we have in the Gaa is one of the things that make the organisation so unique.

cheers

Not disputing that...it's the handling of it, not the transfer itself...

i don't think anyone truly knows the full story as to why he fell out with andrews

im split on this on the one hand i think the chap is entitled to play football on the other hand they way this has been handled defies belief
i would be a traditionalist and i do believe you should play with your own county unless work takes you somewhere else

what annoys me to is the level of hypocrisy from some of the commentators in the media, colm parkinson has a hard neck as i know he moved to dublin for cash as have many other players

micko started all this years ago headhunting players with any county he managed

Transfers have been part and parcel of GAA since the foundation of the organisation. Yeah, it has happened with every county, and please don't insult my intelligence by trying to say that every player who has transferred in the history of GAA gets a job in a different county and then decides to play there.
Personally I feel , Seanie Johnston has been singled out and treated unfairly by the media.
The hurling game on saturday that bent the rules was a fitting end to a fiasco that made up new rules as it went along.

Money is the root of all evil Stan laugh

There is a huge amount of hypocrisy involved in this saga and as I said earlier the Kildare county board have handled this badly. You would not make it up in the Beano laugh
In saying that lots of county boards have bent the rules down the years and this saga just typifies the pressure of the modern game to get results. thumbs up

Hopefully this will lead to people in charge looking a the system and clamping down on transfers as the county system is what is part and parcel of the game for all supporters.

They passed a new rule at congress this year stating that you had to play championship for your new club before you were eligible to play for your new county.....hence the 45 seconds that Seanie was on the field for a hurling match doh

This has been a bone of contention for me for a long, long time and I will never agree with it
