Glengirl: I've noticed that a lot of people regularly "hide" their profile for a few days/weeks.
Now, before anyone jumps down my throat, this is not a criticism, I'm just curious as to why you would do that? Is it to make a statement "Look, I've left CS"
If you want to take a break, why not leave your profile and just not log on, because they all come back again anyway

As long as I'm here I dont understand the "hide" thing. Does one appear hidden when one dosnt sign in for a while?

Back in the days when I used this as a dating site, I would hide my profile if I had seen someone a couple of times to let her know I wasn't still looking.

It could be a bit of both Glengal I think. Everyone has their own reasons.

I actually don't even know how it works. Is your profile temporarily deactivated? Does it take a few days to get it back?
Maybe it is like a self imposed ban to give oneself a cooling off period in which case maybe I should hide out a bit more often when I am feeling crabby Personally I couldn't be bothered, if I am not on here it is usually cos I am off doing something. Plus I am too lazy to look into the finer details, I am either here or I am not. I think that most people just hide their profiles without any fanfare I don't remember seeing any major announcements about hiding profiles as opposed to when people say a general goodbye to everyone

I did it once last year. Met someone, lasted for about 2 months.
Some people do it when on hols so they dont have lots if scammer mail to delete when they get back.
Some because they have started to date someone and see how it goes.
Some because they get pissed off and just want a break.
Have done all of the above in the past and probably will do again, well except the dating one lol.
I dont undestand why some do it just a few hours though and in the intls some seem to log on post and disappear again for minutes at a time even though the rules states once hidden you cant reactivate a profile for 24 hours, thats not actually the case though.

I'm sure there are various reasons. I'd say when someone or some group is banned from the threads or one of them is completely banned from the site their pals might also decide to hide their profile. Flockers only fly in flocks. Yes, I said flockers!

I can understand someone hiding/deleting their profile if they start dating and I never thought of the going on holidays one, but after that I'm still at a loss as to why you hide your profile for a few days....
Although Jimbo did say it's as easy to hide it as to log out, I just don't get it
