Does anyone know about the Mummers? The very small bit of info I have indicates they are (their society still exists) Celtic. They have a parade, and there is fire. They dress up as stacks or bales of straw. Anyone know about them?

The Mummers parade is every New Year's Day in Philadelphia. They dress in costumes - used to watch it every year as a kid (that and the Rose Parade) but I don't remember much about it. They danced around in the streets in costumes on parade ....drums and pipes....my memories of it are pretty faint
jono7: by jove solitare! finally a group to visit where you could wear your sequins and spear and be neither over dressed, nor judged..
(i'm gonna stay on the sidelines with pogo.)
Well that depends on whether I have to wear one of those monk type robes with the hood, but then, I could still wear my sequined loincloth and carry my spear even while chanting the Latin version of the Lumberjack song by Monty Python and being flogged by Witchwaywoman with her whip of satin strands...ahhh, "Rubber bells! Beat the cotton gongs, strike the silken cymbals'( an' whip me with the satin cat-'o- nine tails!' (from the film, Buckets of Blood... )
Is it still a secret If it is,can I get to put antlers on and run around naked under my scantily clad robe, Moonlight glistening on my sweaty chest as it drops downwards onto my lengthy sword , ready for battle he is.....
