jono7: well done! wouldn't it be grand if everyone had the freedom and strength to follow their dreams.
i've grown up in a very multicultural city which i thinks promotes tolerance of different cultures and styles. but i think travel takes it a step further, and teaches real appreciation for the differences.
i've traveled a bit myself and thoroughly enjoyed it. but before judging or comparing our choices to other folks' choices...you never know what there situation is.
for health reasons i am no longer free to do the type if traveling i used to do.

I have considered all of the options, but many of the people that I have met have some sort of illness and it was they way they wanted to spend what time they have left. I wish people could understand a lot better, instead of just sitting on the couch, passing time.confused

lankycrewman: Why are so many people with material things, so unhappy? Why are the people with very little so very happy, and people call them bums. I live and travel in a camper across the country, enjoying my life, and looking to share the sites, adventures and beauty that I have seen, only to find out they want a house, to live in and a place to call home. I have a home and a house on wheels. Am I a bum, or is it that they are jealous?

Oh, wow, that is so cool! I would love to sell my house and go into fulltime RV-ing. But I do not have the money to even buy a motorhome, let alone to travel in one.

It's a nice life you have carved out for yourself, but it's not for everyone - and just because others don't enjoy that lifestyle does not mean they are scared or closed-minded.

Some, like myself, enjoy putting down roots...planting something in the ground and watching it grow. Me, I love my animals. I love to watch the babies being born in the pasture, the hummingbirds returning every year...and the quirky mallards that swim in my fountain.

I won't judge you, if you won't judge me. bouquet

That is how most of the people I have met get started. They sell their homes, take the money from the sell and buy one. It does not have to be new but a start, Just something to think about.

You sound a bit like myself. You're a free spirit. There's nothing wrong with that. We're not all designed to be shackled to bricks, mortar, belongings or partners. Like a wall flower, if you try to pick us, we die inside. It's your life and it's all too short. Live it your own way and to thine own self be true. handshake

I do not judge people, it is that they judge me, and critize me for it. But if you want the roots, that is your choice. and I respect that. I know it is hard for some to understand. See now you know how to enjoy life and smell the rose.

Well there's no reason for anyone to criticize your lifestyle choice as long as it isn't hurting anyone else - which clearly it isn't. Maybe you should blow some exhaust in their face as you peel out. laugh uh oh laugh (kidding)

A couple of years ago my husband wanted us to buy one and travel around
the world in it, this was before he knew he was ill, we never got
round to buying one and travelling, maybe it wasn't meant to happen,
sometimes I wish we had gone and done it.
Fair play to you for living the life you want to live, I know the majority of us are caught up in the material things in life.

You don't have to be ill to get up and travel on wheels my sister and hubby have sold their home and bought a boat a sailing one, with bedrooms shower kitchen etc! and are sailing around Australia this is the new way for retired peeps to travel there are clubs that they can join to hook up with other peeps doing the same and they meet up at different destinations along the coastline same with peeps who have caravans , some stick to caravans which you folks call moter homes.

Me I prefer the comfort of my home and when I travel I like to fly to my destination and love Cruises not everyone likes what you do I am one of them different strokes for different folks

jac379: So, traveling from one place of work (power stations) to another in a vehicle that is also his home means that lanky has a less than average IQ (moron) and he's infringing on societal norms which will lead to people lying in their own excrement and dying at the age of 38 with rotten teeth according to your rationale?

Does this also apply to those (like lanky in the past) who drive trucks (possibly sleeping in the intergral cabin bunk) according to your belief system?

One of us is missing something (logic, I feel) and I have a sneaky feeling its not me.

Hey ho, you carry on thinking that you're right and everyone else is wrong though, eh?

I was just asking a question and I know you have been there all day helping me. I have enjoyed this and I am finding laughter in it all.

I know people has their own opinion and I respect that. banana

S'okay lanky. Rumple and I have debated together before.

Some of that post was with reference to something he said on one of my threads a day, or two ago.

We're all different I guess. It wouldn't be possible travelling around in a camper here in northern Europe. Our winter is 6 months long. I guess not many people have the option doing like you. Is there any place or city that feels more like “home” for you?

Yabut thats YOUR idea of happiness. Happiness is subjective. For others it may 4 walls to call their own. Dont moan about other peeps giving you a hard time about your lifestyle and then do it yourself...Thats not happiness, thats hypocracy talk to hand

I met this old fella when i was camping. He was sick of the city life, and making boats. He has an old Ute and a pop top caravan travelling to free parks, and sometimes staying as long as 3 weeks in one place. What a great way to see the country and still have your beer every night.
Well I have a home and wheels but I like my security, knowing that there is a place I can call home.

I'm simple to a fault. I get that from my dad. I might have wanted a sports car when I was a teen, but other than that, I've never been materialistic. My midlife crisis didn't include buying material things, instead, I grew a ponytail. laugh
