I'm de-cluttering my flat and I have been quite ruthless with some of the stuff I've collected over the years, but very reluctant to get rid of my old school reports and things from my child hood. They have all been packed away in boxes so I rarely see them....shall I throw them away?

My grandsons have bagged all my single Records and LPs...they go back a long way laugh

I had a huge clear out when I moved over here, gave my daughter loads of stuff, my son got all my tools and the rest went to the charity shop. Fast forward 6 years and my daughter has moved here too..........bringing me all my stuff back, including a 9 year old computer which didn't work, although I did manage to get my photos off the hard drive before we dumped it. Yes, I've got my old school report too, don't know why, although I went to the grammar school I didn't particularly shine.

No keep them, EssJay.

If you've kept them this long, you might as well keep them longer. They're personal, a piece of your life. There may come a time when your grandsons will be pleased to be able to see a part of your life in such personal detail. One day your memory won't exist anymore to question, a small snippet may bring some comfort when its most needed. It'll be something to chuckle over at a time when they need a smile - especially if they're bad reports. laugh

Hi Jac

All my reports say I should try harder...laugh
You are right,I would be wise to hang on to my childhood stuff....my children have got all theirs. They are all grown and have families of their own,so I did them each a memory album....so I think I shall make one for me.

A good idea, the memory album.

"Must try harder" is very human. grin

Essjay, your old school reports are definitely worth keeping. I have no idea where mine are and would love to re-read them but being one of 7 kids I think we just didn't have the space! confused

I too have had a mad de-clutter lately which began when my daughter moved out a few weeks ago, I opened her bedroom door to find a pile of clothes, shoes, bags etc. that she didn't want. To cut a long story short I added to it myself, went to a car boot sale and made $180 (about 90 pounds)! applause

I have been slowly making my way from room to room and have re-arranged some furniture as well, have now got a spare students desk, bookcase, single bed to advertise on the net. banana

And am sure I will have enough stuff for another car boot! head banger

PS - you could always scan your school reports onto your PC?? And 'try harder' is just another way of encouraging a student :hug

It's odd looking back, just how limited our teachers were in their reports. I think everyone got, "Could try harder." I must confess though to being a bit of a magpie. I have trouble throwing things out. conversing

Hi Ess,
Well you must de clutter if you are downsizing, I know I am a hoarder too! I did a clearout twice in 2 years and still need another one. I only went out and bought some more stuff to replace what I had given to charity shops. They appreciate anything you can give them.
School reports, never kept those, a good shredder is invaluable.
I did keep the important certs of later years though jeez yes.
So Ess if you need a hand we will be over in Dec. rolling on the floor laughing wine teddybear
