I was talking in another thread about my school reports, which prompted me to make this thread.
I bet there are quite a few of us here that could tell a good tale or two from your days at school..professor

I was about 11yrs old when I ended up in an all girls school, the secondary school (as it was called then) was about half built,so we had no choice but to go the girls school.
That place scarred me for life. All but a couple of the teachers looked like men,I mean most had whiskers...laugh The PE mistress was like a regimental sergeant major, how I hated her, her big blinking baggy khaki shorts. The deputy head only had one leg,I'm not joking, she really did.
My first teacher there was called Miss Russell, she had a centre parting in her hair,it was mostly grey and she wore nasty looking glasses.I lost count of the times she pulled me up in class for talking,I had to go to her desk and she would hold my hand out so she could slap my wrist. It stang like hell, almost as much as the tears I cried laughing afterwards about the way her hair shook all over the place and how red her face would get slapping my wrist rolling on the floor laughing

I was well behaved and nerdy. There aren't many stories to go with that apart from constantly trying to get in the library at ridiculous o'clock in the morning because I'd run out of books and being sent packing by the cleaning staff.

The only detention I ever had was for being caught hiding in the corridor before school hours with my head in a book. A whole week of an hour after school and I had to sit there and do nothing - I wasn't even allowed to read. That really piddled me off, I can tell ya. laugh

Most of our teachers still wore the long black gowns and mortar boards and were like bats swooping along the corridors. Our history teacher made you sit with your mouth open whilst he tried to lob a piece of chalk in, or he simply threw the blackboard rubber at you and tried to bounce it off your head. It never occurred to us to complain.

We did have some inspiring teachers though, one in particular brought the English language, and poetry especially, to life.

EssJay: There was a lot of bad stuff going on in schools when I was around 8-11yrs.....I lost track of how many times my father went and lynched a particular teacher!

I don't trust or care for teachers to this day..

Me neither, or any authority figure for that matter. All it takes is a few bad ones to make you lose respect for the whole lot of them.mumbling

I wasn't particularly bad, but I did have my own office by the time I was 10, and my scholastic days were all downhill from there, as well as numbered. laugh

I had some fantastic teachers who very kindly carried me through some very difficult years between them.

I'm still trying to get back into school now (I've got an interview next week, but haven't secured funding yet...)

Having said that, my daughter was so badly bullied by some of her teachers, I removed her from school more than a year early and got her funding transferred to a college.

I think it depends upon the intelligence level of the teacher and how emotionally stable they are.

All it took was one idiot with an over inflated ego to get the ball rolling. It also didn't help that corporal punishment was still the rule, and he was more then willing to use it, but all that did was further my resolve.

I did have a couple of teachers that taught me "how to learn", and at a very young age, and I'm thankful for them. wine

For the most part I'm self educated from about 13/14 on, and still learning, every day. nerd
