5.Moroccan pottery classes – (U.S. Agency for International Development) $27 million
In 2009, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) began pursuing a four-year plan to improve the economic competitiveness of Morocco. A review by the agency’s Inspector General (IG) found the $27-million project “was not on track to achieve its goals.”
4.USDA’s caviar dreams – (ID) $300,000 While many Americans are finding it difficult to afford to put just the basics on their family’s dinner table. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) spent $300,000 this year to promote caviar.
3.Relive prom week with National Science Foundation video game — (CA) $516,000 The National Science Foundation (NSF) has provided taxpayers with a chance to relive the occasion. In 2012, the agency supported the creation of “Prom Week,” a video game simulating all the social interactions of the event. The project used part of a $516,000 grant from NSF.
2.Self-reflection video game based on Henry David Thoreau’s 1845 writings – (CA) $40,000 The National Endowment for the Arts awarded a $40,000 grant to the University of Southern California (USC) to support production costs of a video game based on the writings of Henry David Thoreau at Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts.
1.RoboSquirrel – (CA) $325,000 What happens when a snake is confronted by a robot squirrel, built to look, act, and even smell like the real thing? Researchers at San Diego State University and the University of California (Davis) spent a portion of a $325,000 National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to construct a robotic squirrel named “RoboSquirrel” to answer that question. While the interaction between squirrels and rattlesnakes has been understood from observations in the wild, the researchers suggest federal funding of projects like the robot squirrel will help perform public outreach, mentor students, and develop the next generation of robot animals. In fact, the team is already constructing other robot mammals. Coming soon are RoboSquirrel 2.0 as well as RoboKangaroo Rat.

Members of Congress not only porked out at record levels, they also made it difficult for opponents of such spending to protest its inclusion in the appropriations bills. Some bills were brought to the floor on a limited basis. At other times members had less than 24 hours between the bill’s release from committee and the final vote. These closed-door tactics ensured that appropriators, as leaders of the spending cult in Washington, could logroll their way to a 297 percent increase in pork since 1997.

If you don't see that as changing the course of your liberties to the point that today, due to the bribery of the very rich, we no longer have a functioning government, but one that has simply been sold to the highest bidder... I'd call you blind and.... happily bought like everyone else, but not an American who gives a damn about his country.

They even tuck ear marks in bills a few minutes before the vote, no one can even have a chance to read them. The pork is a problem, and with BOTH parties not just one or the other. The sad fact is these types of things will not stop until we vote in a new party/parties thats NOT a Dim-o-crap or Rip-off-lican.

Obama was among the top five recipients of earmarks over a 20 year period, even though he only served a couple of years. Chris Dodd was another of the top five.

I'll have to pull the list again, but it seems most were dems...

As I said, we don't have a government functioning for the best interests of most of it's citizens.. Democrat or Republican.. they've been bought and have sold most of us down the river.

Try bringing up a graph with comparisons between the 2 parties or you're just pointing fingers in the air and there is too much of that going on on both sides. Because frankly it's been a long time since there has been a 'conservative' on the Right or a Dem in government 'service' who remembers who he's supposed to be.

If 50% of congress are millionaires... where do you think their interests lay? Not with the majority of this countries citizens.

If you are so deluded to think Romney is a conservative working for your interests (well unless you have a couple of million in the Caimans you don't want to pay taxes on), you really need to understand what you think a president should be. Because he's changed his mind 'on camera' and told so many verifiable lies so many times to appease his backers that I doh in amazement when thinking what warped values you apparently support. If you can't see he's sold his soul to the Bush/Cheney et al company store, you deserve the repercussions. Maybe then you'll see the light.

You get it !!! Wonderful post.

But I also see Obama more in tune with the general electorate. The lesser of the evils. Sad when that’s what we have to work with.

Yep... just the lesser of 2 strawmen because at this point, after 11 years of government that has been so altered and warped that we hardly recognize what we once stood for.

Follow the money.

What we have seen under Obama is the single largest wealth transfer in American history - from our pockets to either big government, foreign countries, corporations or banks. Trillions of dollars of tax payer debt and yet NO jobs. The end result is more debt and less household income, higher consumer costs, higher premiums - and NO JOBS.

What Romney is proposing first and foremost it job creation here in America, along with cutting government waste and inefficiency. (Things that Obama promised but failed to deliver on). How can anyone interpret his goals as only venefiting the rich when ALL of America will benefit from more jobs, better jobs, more people paying into the tax system and less taxes?

It would be normal to question whether or not Romney can deliver on his promises - but we know he has a much stronger track record in these issues and we also know Obama couldn't even do it when he had full control of the house and senate. Well, either he couldn't or he just didn't bother...

I say this is clearly a case of better the devil you DON'T know than the devil who's already failed.

very mad very mad

It irks the heck out of me that if seems to be open season on public servants! Are there some crazy spendings? yes - the Inspector General uncovered them - that is there job.

HOWEVER, that is what the IG's office is designed to uncover. The majority of the public officials (not politicians) are very careful with tax dollars.

It IRKS me that there is this running theme that you can take a window view look into how tax dollars are spend and pass judgement on something you know nothing about.

STOP basing public servants and what they spend our dollars on until you can report the full story and the entire mission of that department and their purpose.

mumbling very mad this just makes me hopping grieved!

I may have missed something here? Did someone say something specifically about public servants vs. politicians? (serious question...)

It seems to me the problem lies with both houses of congress since they are the ones who dole out the dollars which usually go to their own state's pet projects???

Where did we go off the rails? dunno

The news highlights everywhere wasteful government spending - and it is not right or accurate. The houses of congress set the tone and direction to how federal dollars are taxed and funded to states, etc - but the states, cities, towns, counties collect tax dollars and use our tax dollars to - to keep are street lights on, pick up the garbage, enforce our laws and ordinances, allow us to check out books in the libraries, educate our children, ensure safe drinking water.... I could go on and on - to point a finger at a few areas and say wasteful......

teddybear well - you already see how annoyed I get!
