I had dial-up for years, as low as 1,200 kbps, and eventually worked my way up to Comcast broadband at 30 mbps. The old dial-up was so pathetic, over an hour for a simple file. On broadband, I can download a 16 mb file in about 1 1/4 minutes.

That sounds like really good dialup 
Mine was 49 kbps on a good day, now its 100 mbps...its great

My cable broadband went down for about an hour today.
We subbed in a 4g cellphone and the darn thing was faster.
It tested at 29mbs down, and 16 mbs up.
My brodband tests at about 22mbs down and 4mbs up.
