What do all the parents think about the proposed €10 cut in child benefit in forthcoming budget?

Wont be a problem for me cause Iv no kids but its a joke they can cut it across the board but refuse to means test it.

Taking money away from kids that are hungry while other parents who dont need the money bank it and hand it to their kid when their 18! Child benefit was not started so certain kids could travel around Europe when they leave school!mumbling

i think its a disgrace.again its kids that suffer. what was the point in giving children all those rights to protect them then they go take more money off them?most people depend on their childrens allowance. its the only way they can get things for their kids, but i guess the ones doing the cuts dont have to worry bout that.

My understanding of Child Benefit was that it was originally awarded to mothers, so if a bloke pissed his wages up against a wall, or refused to hand any income over, a woman always could at least fill her kids' bellies. That's what my mum told me when I was a child anyway. She said that some women and children suffer deprivation even if their husbands are good earners. I wonder if this is still a safety valve for some families regardless of apparent income.

It would be interesting to survey how people use child benefit in reality. When my daughter was very young, it was the difference between being very hungry and starvation, but by the time she was eight I had it paid into her account and she had to budget it for her extra-curricular sports and school trips (my logic being it was for benefit of the child and so she could use it for education). Even now she uses it for travel to college, food and study materials.

As I understand it, in the UK its illegal to put child benefit into a child savings account, or trust fund.

I agree it's a discrace, pick on the poor kids! Goverment fat cats will be ok though, no fear of their pay being cut!!!( Although it don't apply to me as my children have grown and flown the nest)

every allowance should be means tested simple as
might be more work but savings i think would out way the costs
policticians wages & expenses to be slashed by 20%
and a 3rd of tds in dail to be let go (so to speak)

i used pay some bills out of mine. likes of esb ,rent or things like that.so you could say it was spent on kids. it was keeping a roof over their heads and electricity and heating in house.i had a big chest freezer i used to fill on allowance day so if i had a bad week id still have plenty of food in house.most people i know did the same.im sure a lot still do it to

I would imagine it did all go on kids, because what the goverment give for a child for a week is something like €19.00 no child could be kept on that!

see at the end of the day all childrens allowance is a helping hand from the state! When u have a child it's u and the child's father who need to cough up to the child's needs! U had the child in the first place! Why not scrap the money n acomadate the child in others ways

Childrens Allowance is for the kids! even if mother & Father work, it is a childs entitlement, not a hand out. Pop bands and the rich also get it!
