purr4mance: OOOOOOOOkayyyy I see BUT

if free will is just an illusion who's the captain of your ship.

BUT..laugh...
do you think you and i use 'buts' more often than most folks?...laugh

i'm so reluctant to leave hold of my illusion of free will. i want to believe that i can choose to feel joy. to feel love. to be love. but my intellect leans towards determinism..so do i really have any choices?
is it all just one long continuous, cause and effect ripple from a pebble dropped, or is someone steering?

i just don't know. i feel so powerless at times that i suspect it's not me.. laugh, yet other times the only word i can think of to describe myself is willful...

what do you think, purr ?

montemonte: Hi Jono

So do you believe in six degrees of separation?

hi monte wave

my friend came by after work one day, all excited..telling me, "you're only one degree now. you're only one degree". then she laughed, and told me she had worked with kevin bacon all day.

i do think it's a small world, getting smaller. and i'm often amazed at folks i run into when i'm thousands of miles from home. or how many times i meet someone, and we already have friends or acquaintances in common.

six degrees...possibly

My mom vacationed in Egypt one year, met some folks and during their conversation about places they'd been - it turned out they knew her best friend back home!

I've never met anyone who came close to one degree. In one way it's kinda sad but in another way when you think of the billions of people in the world it's no wonder I'm not connected to at least one degree of somebody I didn't know I was connected to. Does that make sense?confused

If you have not had that experience yet maybe it will happen all at once and you will meet many people that you are connected to through another person. You could get a shirt with a LOGO,
" Do I know YOU? What about your friend?"

I think the word Karma is a Western word that is often misused to describe life experiences.
My understanding is our true nature is moving energy(subtle winds), energy that carries the seeds of our tomorrows that have and are been created by the activities of our own, and to a lesser extent, collective activities that sow the seeds of experience.
Therefore the word Karma attempts to describe the nature of the sum of total experiences of all sentient beings (beings that have mind and fear death) it is a word something akin to perceiving a person or other sentients soul, which is of course a nonsense, a loose english terminology that attempts to describe reality, both are misleading words bit like slang.

The Origin is Sanskrit used first time in 1827 meaning " Fate or Work. It has been used mostly in Buddhism Zen and other Eastern religions and followings.

jono7: hi niko-b
"does it last into the life that we do not comprehend"
i love how you stated that..sounds like it would be in one of your songs..
i wonder about these things too, niko-b. i truly wish i had an understanding of it all the way BB does. but i don't...
i think we are all connected and having a common, or shared if you will, co-creation.
and i really do get confused by 'it is all happening at the same time, in the same moment. the only moment we have is this moment now'...
i like to toss into the mix as well...what about pre-agrements? did i choose this? yes..i think i probably did. why?... i get stuck..intellectually i think it's all about experience, it's about feeling..nothing more, nothing less.
so why do i choose to lose sight of my own happiness?.... one more quarter in the time machine, so i can spin around again...can i really choose how i feel? can i choose my perception of an event? or is there determinism that has already established how i will perceive and interact in any given situation, no matter how subtle or how loud...?
Well, it looks like what I was thinking to some respect was correct, I just don't read and study this like I used to. Here is an article I was reading. I will just paste it.
""In Indian philosophy, the influence of an individual's past actions on his future lives or reincarnations. It is based on the conviction that the present life is only one in a chain of lives (see samsara). The accumulated moral energy of a person's life determines his or her character, class status, and disposition in the next life. The process is automatic, and no interference by the gods is possible. In the course of a chain of lives, people can perfect themselves and reach the level of Brahma, or they can degrade themselves to the extent that they return to life as animals. The concept of karma, basic to Hinduism, was also incorporated into Buddhism and Jainism.""

So you can see how the reference to past lives and how they are chained together, of course each philosophy may take the concept and use it in different ways. But there is going to be a similarity in them as we look at each one separately and as a collection of ideals from a certain region.

Karma, to me, is when you do conscious badness to another. Because you had full knowledge of what you are doing to another person, there is what is called 'pay back time'...... This is Karma!!!

But with all that said earlier about Karma, I would have to say that to me "Karma" is the keyboard I play most every night and it is a very fun Synth indeed.

In response to: Karma!!!!! What Karma means to CSiers.

Let us simplify it...

Karma simply means Action. Issac Newton told us in the Physics class very early on and very clearly in our childhood that " There is an equal and opposite reaction to every action". Nothing more, nothing less. In the spiritual realm it applies equally well as the sages found, realized and then shared it over centuries. Fools resisted.

Once an Action (Karma) is unleashed into the universe, it can't be reversed. Even gods can't stop or reverse it once it is triggered and unleashed. Only another corrective and rightfully released action can gradually dilute it, or erase it over time. Even gods can't stop the equal reaction produced to any action unleashed at any time, anywhere.

Now, if you bang your head on the bed of nails or wall (your action), you will see an immediate reaction and may need to be rushed to the hospital. But in the spiritual realm, in so many day to day situations it takes seconds, minutes, hours, months, years, decades, ney even centuries for a reaction to take place to its full completion, all the way to even in a re-birth down the eternal road of eternal life. But return it shall, as nothing can stop it.

In many situations, once an action is unleashed, it travels and vibrates throughout the entire universe before the reaction can come back to the initiator in its entirety, in this life some time or in the next one, depending upon unleashed karma's nature under the spiritual karmic laws, regardless of whether it was a good or a bad action (karma). But come back it shall, because it can't be stopped by any force in the universe as it must follow the same law Newton also discovered for the children in the physics class but in reality has always existed in this spiritual universe for eternity, and always shall.

So your karma is in your hands. Both good and bad. Unleash whichever you want to as God has given you a free will, Willy... Make sure you understand that you can't escape the ultimate reaction as it shall continue to chase after you day and night all the way to the end of this planet or this universe until the very final conclusion, as the case may be. No one can save you other than you from you. Therefore, I suggest unleash only the good karma but expect no rewards. For they shall have to find you some time some day as no-one can stop that. So Good Luck.
