Its impossible for any object or action to just cease to be or become non existent.
Nothing in this universe, or on this planet exists other than in interdependence upon other phenomenon, an object or action like all phenomenon is in a constant flux of change. So to the moving energy (subtle winds) for as long as they are driven in consequence (cause and effect) human activities motivated by desire, self interest or other negative actions of body, speech and mind, for as long as, they cannot simply disappear, become a nothing, only purely motivated activity can cease the cycle of suffering rebirth all sentient beings on this planet share.
The self "I" from its own side doesn't actually exist it's made up of many interdependent ever changing parts, cells, water, minerals; our true nature is moving energy

Have you read the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying?

- all 451 pages free read

One of the many ideas that stood out for me is when we die (according to Tibetan buddhists) is there are various "places" "planes" "levels" "moments" "trials" (can't recall exactly the word they sued, which one's spiritual self moves through... during that "progression" one has choices - to be tempted by the material world, or not... to return to earth, because of material desire, to become a teacher, to be a student... or, to skip the material temptation and not return at all. This last choice is the one I would like to make.

And, maybe that is why my life is what it is now. Or not.

Anyway - the book is very interesting. I especially enjoyed the descriptions of rainbows rising from the place where Buddhist teachers have passed from this reality to the next.

peace bouquet peace

chris27292729: I agree with ""smile 247tome"" too.The reaction/s we haven't realised in our lifetime it puzzles me a bit. Why experience reaction after we are dead, and how is possible to experience after you have kicked the bucket. With your spiritual karma i guess.

Oh, dear, no! Take it one chapter at a time ... I found it easiest to read in small chunks - and then while doing other things I would thoughtfully review what I'd read, it's fairly "different" from what people normally choose to read and, I think, requires contemplation.

Not the sort of book that can be read in one evening, I think it took me a few weeks to get through the whole book.

peace

somthing else to contemplate
Deepak Chopra Life is Chaos and Order

Having comfort in our own ambiguity, unpredictability, and uncertainty, a small amount of intent can give rise to a creative leap of imagination that fulfills your intention. How can you let your creativity emerge? Is it possible to think of chaos and unpredictability as the creative force of the universe?

bodleing: The Laws of Karma state that whatever quality of energy we give out, we get back. Not exactly as 'an eye for an eye', but if we give happiness to someone, it will come back to us. If we give pain or sorrow, it will come back, perhaps not today or tomorrow, but some time in the future.

Exactly!!!!!handshake

In response to: Karma!!!!! What Karma means to CSiers.

Karma means that every cripple deserves to be a cripple.

Karma means that every starving child deserves to be starving.

Karma means that every criminal that isn't caught deserves to get away with their crime.

Karma means that the individual is always held accountable to the consequences of their actions, and that others are never made to pay for the irresponsiblity of the individual.

Karma is unreal. Karma is the negation of mankind's justice.

Acceptable to all

Actually, this means acceptable to us in all its forms. We need to create states that are acceptable to us in all their forms. Actually, the so called 'Golden Rule' is a rule for creating good karma. It has never been expressed properly, but it is the rule, 'Do to others what you would like them to do to you.' We need to capture the idea of the law rather to be bothered by its wording.

The Great Problem

Although I gave examples of UNDERSTANDING, RESPECTING, BEING HAPPY, LOVE, etc, these are not without pitfalls.

When we create UNDERSTANDING, we also create MISUNDERSTANDING. When we create LOVE, we also create HATE.

Yet if we create UNDERSTANDING, or SEEKING UNDERSTANDING. Perhaps being INTERESTED then if we and others adopt this thinking, with awareness of its opposite, then we can avoid the negative consequences.

With UNDERSTANDING the negative is MISUNDERSTANDING. This is probably less severe than the negative of HAPPINESS (UNHAPPINESS). For this reason, although the pursuit of HAPPINESS good, it is often avoided because of the power of its negative.

LOVE, too, has the opposite of BEING UNLOVED. And although LOVING is good, it does have a powerful negative.

For this reason, BEING INTERESTED or UNDERSTANDING can be more powerful as an intention.

The greatest negative

This may be the DESIRE FOR PERFECTION. When we desire perfection, we find it hard to RESPECT or LOVE others. We can never attain this desire. Nothing is PERFECT. So we create disillusionment and the desire for something better, when we may already have the best we can achieve. ACCEPTANCE, can therefore be a powerful force in creating good Karma.

Acceptance

I will not say much about ACCEPTANCE and the possible negatives. Except to say that here we refer to ACCEPTANCE as a temporary state, and as a counter to that great negative PERFECTION.

Acceptance means the observation of what IS, rather than what could or might be. It means observing the world and existence without thought or prejudice. To fearlessly observe what exists. This also means BEINGNESS.

The last solution

The ultimate solution is the UNDERSTANDING of the world in the fullest sense. It is a transcendence of the world.

When we postulate EXISTENCE, we also postulate NON-EXISTENCE. This implies CHANGE. Where there is GOOD, and there is CHANGE, there is the LESS GOOD. (But also BETTER). Where our postulation leads to EXISTENCE, there is CAUSE and EFFECT. In this way, the whole nature of the physical world in which we live comes into existence. And so does the LAW OF KARMA.

When we can ACCEPT all of this with UNDERSTANDING then we resolve the issue.

The mundane solution

We seek to UNDERSTAND and be INTERESTED, and ACCEPT what is. We ACT in ways that lead to results acceptable to us, in all their forms.

Confusion

We resolve confusion by taking one thing at a time and ignoring others. We CONTROL what we can control, and ignore, temporarily, what we cannot control. In resolving the issue of Karma we learn about ACCEPTANCE and avoid PERFECTION. We cannot resolve the whole issue at once, nor can we do what is PERFECT. We might choose to BE LOVING, even though there are possible serious side-effects. We do this with UNDERSTANDING and CHANGE the negative into the positive and wholesome.

Resolving the issue of Karma can appear CONFUSING. We resolve this issue by doing one thing at a time.

Communication

Communication is a way of obtaining UNDERSTANDING. We understand by talking, listening, asking questions, looking and listening. We learn to BE the other person. And we resolve conflict through UNDERSTANDING. We know that desiring and seeking PERFECTION is a great evil.

Sometimes even the noblest kings must go to war

The irony(or not)is that Karma has become a fashionable Western term at a time when social security has never been greater and responsibility has never been more communalised.

My gut feeling is that Karma has become popular in the West because many Westerners have been gifted a life but deep down know that they don't really deserve it. They can't rationally warrant, justify or define their own wealth and success and so utilise ethereal/spiritual terms to disguise this fact from their own ego... In the same way that a spoilt child doesn't appreciate the gifts from its parents and instead feels entitled I them: I have received these gifts therefore I deserve them: Karma.

And the biggest reason I disagree with karma is because life's not fair. In the past everyone knew this. And only children expected fairness at the exclusion of all other considerations.
