Yep, but you weren't here so we all left and have congregated in a phonebox just outside Swindon.

G'day everyone in UK wave

Just dropping in to say 'Hi' - we've been a bit caught up with the odd cyclone, monumental floods and the odd bushfire down here doh

But it's all good, my house still got a roof on and power is on - so I am a lot better off than some. thumbs up

Have a beaut day teddybear

No soulman, we only had damage from wild winds, 100 kmh, mainly lots of branches, few trees down, green debris around the place, few roads flooded but very little compared to some people. Some places have had water up to their roofs which you have probably seen on TV.

Read in the paper this week that 1 week after the ex-cyclone went down the coast that 3600 kms (2,400 miles) of roads are still closed, flooded or damaged - and that is Qld alone - but we will get there. Sun is shining today.

I didn't even go out of the house for 2 whole days - never heard of for me!!sigh

Mmmmm insurance soulman - now you've opened a can of worms!!

Try n keep it short. 2 yrs ago don't know if you remember but Brisbane a city 70 kms north of me, flooded badly for 3 reasons, lots of rain from the La Nina weather pattern, an already over full dam to conserve water because we had had 5 yrs of drought, topped off with a king tide!!

They had to open the flood gates at the dam and release huge volumes of water that came down the river to the city! So much damage to people's property and the insurance companies debating over the many definitions of a flood! frustrated

There was an Inquiry into the management of the dam which of course absolved the dam operators of any wrongdoing - they should have released water about a month earlier IMHO.

Consequently, for people in flood prone areas, IF they can get insurance now, the premiums are ridiculous. So here we are again 2 yrs later, not quite as bad in Brisbane, having a 1 in 100 yr weather event??

There is now a class action beginning against the Brisbane City Council I think and dam operators to hold them accountable.

Phew! Are you still awake? sleep

Watch this space for further developments! Oh and the other end of the country - Victoria are having bushfires!! help

I am an ex-Pom, but love living here in spite of everything, it is Paradise. cheering wine
