'My life extends far beyond the limitations of me'

Analyse and discuss the above phase, what you understand it to mean, how it relates to you and others.

Good luck with this one Mr Sleeves....

As I look at my watch (yeah, one of the last humans that doesn't rely on a smartphone for the time) its 8am, which means you posted this on or around 11pm last night...
Burning the intelectual middnight oil a bit there methinks....
Anyways, ill take a pop at it, but I expect I will have read it wrong, no, make that, answered it wrong!....

"We are measured by what we have achieved in life, how our actions or in-actions can and do effect the lives of others, and the turns of events micro and macro, in outcomes both good and bad"....

And (yes, i know i shouldn't start a sentence with AND, but its sunday AND i haven't had a coffee or slice of toast yet) I'm probably miles off the mark, so, theres about 5 minutes of my life wasted.....what will I tell the kids?

AB....coffee2 .......

Isn't it a contradiction though? Often you'd have things which are contradicted like that, but are very apt in a particular time: "I drank far more than I could" (no really you drank what you could, otherwise you couldn't have drank it lol)

I guess that's the same. Only means as much as it does in the particular setting.

I think the first thing I think of reading this is my children. As my dependants and legacy and I also think of my great grandfather who wrote his autobiography and left all of his family that read it a greater sense of not only who he was but also who we were.

Or

A girl at 15, looses a parent when that parent leaves the home and then the other through bereavement. Moved to another country experiences bullying - to the point she will not go swimming - which was a great love, and does not swim again for 20 years.
So in this case the life of the bully far extended beyond the narrow confines of her limitations.

Or

Hand a euro to someone looking for change for a supermarket trolley & maybe say it was done for me and now I'm passing it on. They will recall and recount it to others.

Or

I am employer of 17 people & how I control my life and business controls their tomorrow.

I think it's about the contribution you make to the world, not necessarily in monetary or material terms but the impact you have on everyone & the experience you choose to have in interacting with the world.

No, it doesn't. You are the limit to your life and your life is the limit to you. If you mean the unintended consequences of your actions, then those would be somebody else's life.

to me is could mean that my life, the effect I can have on others, my actions....all reach further and have more impact than purely on myself alone.

Yeah, that's what I meant when I said the consequences of our actions are then somebody else's life when they .... become part of their life. Life if the original interactive format. Sometime the responsiblity for those consequences remain with us, or the consequences of the consequences, as in conscience for the non-sociopaths among us.

Babies and bullets. That's where the theory gets complicated laugh

Good replies guys and gals! handshake

I dont think I have anything further to add to it, y'all have said pretty much what my feelings were on that particular phrase. No man is an island also seems appropriate in this case; no matter how isolated or individual you may percieve yourself to be, you ultimately affct the direction, decisions and paths of those whom you come into contact with, or, those whom are not even born yet.

Interesting stuff! handshake

Would do wouldn't it, as we only use a mere 10% of our potential (well most people are far below that %)
