sunshine4963: I just want to thank you all for your encouragement. I still have not given up on my search for true love and happiness.

Oh...by the way...NO, I have not sent anybody any money. The only thing I have given is some of my life story to some. I am learning to hold back on what I say to people now.

Word of good advice. Do not just read what they tell you, but look carefully at what they do not tell you!! AND if someone starts to talk to you about business, or projects that they're working on, etc., keep one eye toward that becoming an issue later... and lastly, the more they insist on how honest they are, the bigger the lies usually.

sunshine4963: Why is it so hard to find someone that is not going to drop a bomb on you when your trying to get to know them and to start a relationship? I have had 4 out of 6 contacts that want money from me. On top of that...I have never met them in the first place. It is sad and unappreciative to open myself up and get slapped in the face by scammers.

66% scammers eh? Wow you have better odds that some others on this site. I still get more scammers that real.

I believe in the old 80/20 rule. It seems to work most places. 80% scammers, 20% real.

Don't stop being who you are, just be more discerning about who you let into your space. After a while, you can tell the signs of probability that an email may just be a scammer. Usually their profile will give it away.

handshake

Don't feel bad for what has happened. Use it as a lesson. There are a lot of scammers on this site and some of them are good at what they do. I found reading the scammers section of this site really informative and helpful. The main thing to do is give it time and don't pass out personal information, such as email, right away. Sometimes if the person seems "too good" they are usually a scammer. Just be more careful and guard your heart more when it comes to this site and others like it.

Glatlol: To be honest from the sounds of it the answer is, because you havent the commonsense to spot them. Sorry but facts are facts, scammers are easily spotted, if you havent managed to spot them by the time they ask for money then I would suggest that a dating site is not for you.

wow such harsh advice! wow this dating site is fine for her, it's all about the get out there and try and learn lessons and don't repeat any mistakes.

Jeesh: I even had myself scam me on this site!! How can you develope trust in someone here on CS or the real world? Call me paranoid but it seems a majority of people are out for something you are not looking for. Such a shame.

I agree with you Jeesh, scamming is so awful, that now I ask far too many questions when anyone is interested and emphasize communicating only on this site. If anyone answers, then there are more questions that I make up. Most who are interested are from overseas. How would one get to know one from overseas? Quite difficult I think?

Block before you delete.

I block maybe half a dozen scammers a day.

We tend not to go into details anymore on the forums about how we spot scammers, as the scammers were reading and changing techniques to try and stay one step ahead. laugh

You'll soon get to the point where the only reason you have to open a scammer mail is to block them. You'll know its a scammer mail before even opening it.

There are plenty of people who are lovely on this site. Welcome to the forums, its a good way to learn and 'meet' people.

PS. I tried to mail you with a few scammer spotting tips, but I'm outside of your area.

You could open up communications by mailing me and then I could mail you back, if you wish.

I understand restricting your area - I've also blocked some areas otherwise inappropriate contacts can be overwhelming. Its a shame it also means we shut out spontaneous chit chat with forum friends.
