I hadn't noticed that it had gone.
There are many forms of verbal contact and people with different skill levels. There always have been.
Now we have more mediums for conversation with increased technology. Some ways suit some people better than others.
Certainly for those of us who are stutterers, have hearing difficulties, score highly on an AQ test, have ADD, whatever, the written medium is a splendid way of communicating and opens up a whole new world.
Y'know, I'm sure there was a hoo har about that modern fangled invention the telephone ruining the very fabric of society.
Perhaps the biggest barrier to communication is the fear of, and refusal to, change.

This is the introduction on my profile. May it never die!!!!!!!!!! What we have on CS is communication.......not conversation. To have a conversation it must flow. Conversation is not analysing what you are going to say next, as in written communication here on CS.
In my world, it will never die. And even when people are texting whilst in your company, does not mean they are not participating in the wonderful art of direct conversation.!!!!!!
