Some guys look idiotic to me with their ultra patriotism. They think their country is the greatest country and all others dont deserve respect.
What's ur opinion on being too patriotic? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?
How patriotic you are?

I think a good democracy can stand criticizm. Countries and individuals that can't take criticizm have much to be thin skinned and defensive about.
For this reason such individuals/countries become over zealous patriots and the start of nationalistic trends.

I'm just shaking my head with some of the middle eastern countries when you dare to crticize or make a joke - chatting with Turks and Egyptians in particular. Eish!
In Australia gov bashing is de rigeur and we can take a joke!
So I think we have a good democracy even if a goofy government!

I think there's a very big difference between enjoying aspects of your country (some things about Wales are just awesome), valuing what you have and blind faith that your country is superior to all others.

The blind faith thing means that people can get away with corruption and murder, so yes there is a link with other extreme regimes.

There are some things that I'm totally ashamed of about the country I live in (corruption and murder being on the list) and I'm grateful I live in a country where I may voice my opinion about that.

Not that voicing my opinion is likely to bring about much change, but butterfly's wings and all that. dunno

Patriotism ,national security, for king and country etc all are very powerful means of deceptions ...
