In fairness I may be a lot of things, but I'm no 1! Granted I'm no 8 either but still. I think perhaps sometimes the type of people who give ratings that low are conscious about their own looks and want others to share in the misery.

if im brutally honest, my bass was worth more than a 1, its a ken smith for christ sake, beautifully crafted out of exotic woods, id say that person had little or no discernable taste....
however, your right, the ratings thing is a proper tub of lard, without usefull cooking attributes of lard...
as an aside, id class myself as a 6, reasonable at a distance, uaually horizion, but i do have lovely ears, ask any of my ex's...
oh, and big hands...

Yeah I'd say it's something like that alright, as whenever I see that someone has given me a 4 I always find someone and give them a 3.

I see myself as a six too. An adequate if forgetable face but not so bad that you'd be reaching for something to gouge your eyes out either.
