Shelter from the elements, warmth, consumable water and food are really the only requirements that should be of relevance. Modern world though has grown so twisted, and you can't even get your basic requirements going anymore, unless you enter the rat race. There are amazingly cheap ways to build. Sandbag buildings are gorgeous, everyone can learn to raise one, or strawbale buildings, but then you hit planning regulations and what not, plus you need money to just have a piece of land to put it on.
Anyone know about Simon Dale? Not sure how far the project in Wales is now, but they tried to get an 'alternative' comunity going and hit loads of rocks.
I know we can't all go back to 'the basics', just seems the madness has already removed us too far from that.. but money and most of the things peeps think they need nowadays to be happy are really not what makes a day worth having been lived...
