If the person I'm dealing with is a feelings soup with no logical concept of their own behaviour, then I'm not going to listen to the logical part of my brain apart from where it confirms my instinct. You can't reason a woman into bed for instance, if you could then chess club would be teeming with clunge.

One great Frenchman, who showed so much knowledge of human nature - Honore de Balzak, in one of his first out of 98 or s.th. novels said that instincts are the first basic level of decision making ground, the second he puts to reasoning by words, thoughts, logic, etc. and the final third and highest one he puts to be prediction, foreseen capabilities of people, etc. The latter, as I see it, puts things back to the basic first thing - the instincts that all we as animals have.
