It's been going on for quite a few years now, Reb. When they needs funds, they dig into SS funds and worry about it later. They are in the red anyway.

From my experience, the banks has a free hand in changing agreements in the past with its customers and the politicians turning a blind eye.
When the real estate market and some banks crashed, it took a large bite from the middle class.
