I have found out that those who ask you for your email address right away are usually scammers. Stick to communicating through CS or Skype of Face Time.

I believe you may have come in contact with scammers. Please read up about online romance scammers and educate yourself on their methods. There's a lot of information on this site, for starters. Best of luck

You´re not really going to get to know someone awfully well if you just chat here. You have to get on IM somewhere. The trick is....deciding which ones to invite on your messenger or Skype. You can usually tell after a few messages on CS if you are likely to wish to pursue anything further. Once there......you can soon find out if they´re genuine or not. (or even...if you like them

Yes I agree to a point, but your very limited as to what you can do here. For example when I lived in Portugal I was talking to an Irish lady about the region of Portugal where I lived. I could only show her pics of my house there and the local beaches by getting her email address.
Also you can send people pics if you become facebook friends with them and you can also talk about music and exchange you tube music links etc. None of this is possible here. So it can be a perfectly harmless request that can really enhance ones friendship with another person.
I know there are scammers and idiots who just want email addresses from women to mail them indecent messages and pics etc but other people are totally genuine. People seem to be totally paranoid now about giving out their email address because of this scammer and idiot element. This is a shame. Because a great many act like you have asked them for their credit card details even when your request is 100% genuine.

Totally agree, i find its fine you chat here for a while, certainly more than 2 messages !...then once i get to know a person better, and its going well, i ask if they would like to skype, depending where they live of course ..but first or 2nd up people asking for your email, ..........Scammers....

I usually get one request a day, I've had a few recently from Gmail, the scammers are going up market from yahoo-
