I am due to have a baby in less than a month and I am scared to death! I was wondering if any females would issue some kind words of encouragement about the whole labor process.
should I get pain medication? is it normal to start having aches and minor contractions this early before I am due?
it is completely normal for you to be having minor contractions...in fact, with your subsequent babes...you'll have them even earlier. called braxton-hicks contractions, they are your bodies way of preparing for the real thing.
remember, childbirth is a thing you were built for...your body will figure out quickly how to manage it.
as for pain relief, that's between you and your doctor...it depends upon your health, the baby's health, and your pain tolerance. personal preference, of course...would be one that doesn't affect the baby, so no narcotics. an epidural can block all of your pain, but generally doesn't get into the baby's blood-stream. the down-side is that you can't walk around.
of course, when you get far enough in the labor process for pain relief...you usually aren't walking around a bunch, anyway.
drugs are your friend..... i was in pre-term labor for 2 months with my last one and on bed rest... i stayed in pain for a long time... breathe calmy, distract yourself and when it's over and u se your little one it will be a distant memory... all of my babies were 3 weeks early, get steroids, atleast 2 doses... they help make the lungs mature and the baby more healthy if born early and yes, it's normal
I was scared as well with my first but its best thing you will do in life and if it was that bad women would only have one I have three myself I sure you will do great and yes get the pain med thats why they make it and It does not hurt the baby at all GOOD LUCK
just between us, you haven't experienced it... and in the idea of steroids... SOMETIMES, (not to scare anyone) it's either that or the baby being hooked up to i.v.'s and oxygen and in the intensive care unit.... they know what they are doing with medication these days and tell you of their risks and benefits... but the most dangerous is labor inducing drugs...

i would think if the pian is to bad yes pian meds can be good take it from a man that was throwin across the room from my first dather being born yes there is risk but some of the beafits out wheagh the bad i had sempathy pains and the morning sickness with my kids she pushed and so did i
everything has an effect on the baby, from the air you breathe and the water you drink.... i went without pain relief until i went into surgery, i had a spinal... very difficult spinals, they couldn't get it in there in the right plac, and then i hit the narcotics... but i was almost ready to push and i didn't have meds... but i have a VERY high pain threshold for pain.
i'm all for natural, lol...but then, i draw strength from pain.
my daughter, when she had hers...within the first hour was puking from the pain and had to have an epidural. she had her FIRST baby in four hours. my fourth took over 48.
Congratulations on your new love. Narcotics do enter into the babies blood if you take them. Epidural may be your best bet. As for the pain, hurts a lot in a good way. As soon as it is over...you will not care about it. The pain of labor is a very small price to pay for what you are getting in return. Don't be scared honey. It is very natural and it will soon be just a faint memory. Keep us informed when you get that beautiful baby home. Kat
it took about 20 times for them to get the spinal in, and then i ended up with a spinal headache... they filling full of mt. dew and caffeine... and serious drugs... i mean serious... but, it was all worth it.. sometimes i couldn't lif my head from the surgical pain and the spinal head ache, but it's all a distant memory now... sometimes pain is a positive thing, it lets you know you're alive and that you are or have accomplished something just look at it in a positive light i guess
I was warned that if I moved my head up or tried to lift it in any way, after having one pf those. That I would get a severe headache. So, I layed there still and didn't move my head much til it was clear. Kat
