epirb: Stopping the war saved the Japanese race Jac , no doubt about that . Okinawa and a few other places showed that the Japanese meant what they said by fighting to the last man . More Japanese died the same day to conventional weapons than the nukes but not the show of strength that was needed that the nukes had . Blessing in disguise .

Yeah, very well disguised.

Especially that bit where after the first bomb the Japanese were ready to surrender, but the US wanted to test the second one anyway.

I'm thinking at least the women and children could have been left out of it. Isn't there some convention where civilians aren't supposed to be targeted? I realise that gets ignored by aggressors worldwide, however.

chris27292729: ""Weapons of muss distraction"" the reason for attacking Saddam.
Still looking in Iraq to find ""just one"".-
What a lame excuse.
The brilliant USA president GWB didn't even know, how to hang Saddam.

Britain was a part of that, also. It's not just the US.

Objecting to one atrocity does not imply approval of another. handshake

there are conventions , not all side play by them . There simply is no other way than what was used . If it had not been for nukes Russia more than likely would have had ago in Europe . Count ourselves lucky .

Some areas of the world will see nuclear war. Won't be a Worldwide Nuclear War. Not a long drawn-out campaign. Nuclear war stops the enemy pretty quick.

I do not think so. Humans have the "ability" to find other ways of destroying themselves in order to gain something or in many cases nothing.
In a nuclear war, no one gains, just suffers.

They were ready even before the First one,but Stalin plumb forgot to inform his Allies about it,on account that he wanted Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands!
USSR and Japan had a non-agression Pact until Stalin attacked after the second Nuclear Device, then all bets were off!
Japan did approach Stalin about a possible Armistice, but it didn't fit his plans,so he forgot to tell Truman and the rest of the Allies about it!

raphael119: China would be wiped out by the fallout and nuclear winter, just get to live in horror a year or so.

Fallout? Add up ALL of the nuclear tests,....we are all still here! Over 2100 tests,...and whoa,....TSAR bomba was a sweetheart of a test at 58 megatons,....then again,....I have read that the total nuclear arsenal is a bit over 7,000 megatons and to date only a mere 500 or so megatons have been exploded,....

To what demonic deity do you say your prayers to? Although I am NOT religious, I am familiar with the tenants of most religions on this planet, and of the god(s) within these manifests, I know of none that would, based on their rationale, have a god that would accept such a prayer.

Ali, my brother....I wish the same. Although I am not a religious man, I do take heart from readings of the many different faiths,....from the Christian doctrines,...

"and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more"

Yet, war seems to continue with an inevitable march,...

moxie46: I beleive no - if a group of men showed up for a fight - all with a gun - first to shoot would be second to die - all others would go home. Man knows this - even a terrorist knows one nuke and you`re gone - survival!

An interesting point,....the nuclear deterrent,....the "Mexican" stand-off so to speak (The Good The Bad The Ugly). Yes,....nearly 70 years this has worked.....the problem I see is there are many who can see not only surviving a limited theatre of nuclear exchange,...but an all out war. And yet,...fission, fusion,...this science cannot be discarded,...it may eventually become crucial to our survival.....I thank you for your response and truly hope you are correct!!

Howdy mike, I've made mention here before, that Connecting Singles is similar to a crowded subway. Never know the people that you're going to be around. Some might preach the Gospel in the subway, some might want to blowup the subway.
