lindsyjones: The historical place, Acropolis of Athens,...Landmark of the old civilization. Something that tells the story of the old world.
I have been to Finland, Brussels and Monaco...but not recently. I have been all over Canada and my country and Mexico. Mostly in Guadalajara where my Awalita was, more like in Jalpa. Mazatlan, Ciudad Obregon, Monterey and Hermosillo.
Too many to list here, but as countries, in no particular order Greek Islands especially Rhodes, Kos and Kalymnos and the food is just wow Italy especially Tuscany, food Philippines especially Bohol, Boracay is too commercial now and the beaches have been spoilt in my opinion Kenya, its my true home Wales especially the black Mountains, I miss Wales more that almost any other area France anywhere outside of Paris, hate Paris, smelly and very unfriendly people Ireland anywhere on the west coast, just stunning Spain for motorcycle touring America for the diversity between states Canada, especially Vancouver South America for their history, scenery unusual food China especially Anhui province for their culture, food and scenery. Many more but to be honest, in all my travels I have found reasons to stay in almost every place I have visited, everywhere has good and bad points, it's all about one's ability to look with open eyes

At Greece, the acropolis is a must but for history of humanity, the museum of ancient civilizations in Ankara (Turkey) is just fascinating yet I would love to visit the cradle of our civilization (Mesopotamia).

Jalpa? in which state? Your abuelita was here? how long?
Guadalajara and Monterrey are huge cities, I like Guadalajara better but Mexico city is just amazing, with so many museums and places and things to do and see.
Mexico city is safe to visit now more than my place.

No, so far my Chinese travels have been inland or to the west, but it is on my list,I taught 5 students from Taiwan and found them very interesting, and very different to mainland Chinese students, more modern and dare I say "westernised".

Thanks Rizlared!
I have never been to China or Taiwan either but it must be interesting to see both parts. I have been doing some reading on Taiwan (on the net) and they are superstitious with the numbers and the colors (or so the net says). For China I do have some personal references from close friends that have lived/visited there.

Do your students need a "good manners" teacher?
The Chinese are a strange race, they are very very polite in many situations and like hooligans in other situations, Being taken out, entertained or going on a trip somewhere and you couldn't find nicer people, shopping is lovely as they are so helpful, but catching a bus or train is a free for all and they would push a dying grandmother to one side to get on board. Taiwanese, in my limited experience, seem less polite, more direct and slightly insular, but more open and friendly, probably due to their history.

Jalpa, is two hours by car from Guadalajara, it's state of Saltillo, and it's a little town gill of Holland people. They are more blonde than my ex with deep blue eyes.
My abuelita was there for 15 years. When my grand father passed away, she met a very nice man from there. The last name is Roman, they moved from San Diego to Mexico when they retired. They were both US citizen of course but preferred to live there permanently and only visited us every now and then.

Hi, No never visited the rice terraces, but once I have moved permanently to Cebu, it will be on my list of places to visit. We have amazing rice terraces here in China also, and of course tea bushes, planted on the sides of almost inaccessible mountains, one has to wonder how they get up there to pick the leaves.

Same thing in Baguio. The coffee plantations are planted on ridges, too and they are amazing how they can tend these plants on impossible places. 7000 feet above sea level and temperature is consistent all year round, 45 to 78 degrees. Visit it Rizal.
lindsyjones: Naked, I'm from Sonoma County but go to trinity alps and Lassen park every once in a while.
Sonoma county... I've been there a couple times for work. It's technology dense. There's a lot of really nice vineyards and winery's there too. I lived south of there in Orange County back in the seventies when I was in college there. I've often wondered how it's changed there now. Fast pace and always something to do in Southern California.... body surfing on Newport or Long beach, down hill skiing at Big Bear, water skiing at lake Elsinore. Beautiful women everywhere.

If has become the wine capital of the world G. The same owners from Europe. Alexander valley is so beautiful. Kendall Jackson winery and many others are there. Rubicon owned by the Coppola, is kn the heart of Napa Valley. Mostly the landscape iz like in Tuscany.
Southern I'm not too keen with the crowd there but the fruit bowl and agricultural capital of the nation, San Joaquin up by Bakersfield to Modesto is beautiful, too.
Newport Beach, try Santa Monica, better. Not too crowded.
