Friskyone: Most of our parents cared for us and raised us so when they get older and are needing care for themselves, would you bring them into your home and take care of them? Would you feel obligated to do so or would you place them in a nursing home?
I would care for mine in my own home until the end.
Let's hope you're lucky to live long enough to have to worry about nursing home care.
I took care of my mother so far as I was able to. She refused to come to the US in part due to the language and problems with the insurance coverage. This is something everyone who contemplates an international marriage should think about.
I had to put her in a nursing home because of her illness (she was terminal), because I had to work, I was overseas and I had a child to take care of. The upside is, that I flew over as often as I could, I gave money to her friends to make sure they visit regularly and bring her stuff and I paid extra for a private facility, nice room, for a phone where I could call her directly and whatever I could to make sure she's well. Again, she didn't want!! to come to the US. We offered, despite the problems with the health insurance.
So sometimes it's not a clear cut case of what you want, but what you can do and the wishes of the person that is looked after.
You know, I'd put a person in a nursing home in Germany any day before I'd consider a facility in the US. I also think that carers need to be paid a lot more.
Two guys stayed without pay until they couldn't handle the workload anymore. How shameful is that. We got money for bombs and aid, but we don't have money to care for the elderly.

mnowsa: I sure am thankful, Lolette. parents are the greatest thing in the world after God (for those who believe in God).
But they are being taken cared of by the members of my family,, They are in the good hands,,the advantage of being a big family,, the burden is shared,, which is not always the case when we are abroad,, everyone could not say i have a lot of free time, life don't leave us other options at times,,,

mnowsa: You did great to take care of your mother, Nidi
Mnow, thank you. I took my obligation very serious. It also set an example for my own son, you know. Kids learn from how you treat your own parents. Many people with children sometimes forget that.

yes..indeed there is advantage of being a big family. I have one brother and one sister (both live in abroad in other countries). I am the only child who is staying close to his parents, and my parents sure do appreciate that a lot.

I'm sure you would do the same thing
You are indeed setting up a very fine example for your son, Nidi. I pray and hope that your son understands the virtue of caring for his parents.

Thank you for those kind words He does, I know that already. I also wish that for you when you have children
