Ccincy: There are several health issues that humans get that dogs can get too.I was very surprised to learn this from my vet.

Of course they do, they go a bit mad if they're neglected and left on their own too long. It stresses them. You only need watch animal rescue programmes, if you haven't seen it in reality. The ill treatment of some dogs (and other animals) is just abominable.
Some dogs may be vicious but overall they've been damn good to humans and so have horses. A lady with alzheimers was found dead a while ago after going missing with her King Charles Cavalier. He had stayed by her side for hours and died with her. And they're not the smartest of dogs.
