rohaan: This is my understanding (anyone feel free to correct me..) "Black" indicates in accounting, that you are "ahead of the financial game". So, "Black Friday" has come to mean, in America, that you are going to be offered huge savings on just about every consumer product, and therefore, be "ahead of the financial game", or, "out of the red and into the black". My personal experience is that it is sometimes true, (the actual savings) but all too often it has been discovered that the pricing is rigged a little, and several weeks or months prior, the prices are inflated so they can be deflated on Black Friday with no loss for the business. People love a bargain, so they visually "see" one with this method. I never make sales purchases on Black Friday. The week before and after Christmas, here, is more likely to be one of true savings, especially the week after. (Merchandise is often half-price, for REAL). There are schedules made for consumers that highlight the best times/months for certain purchases. For instance, automobiles tend to be marked down considerably in September and October, and linens, etc...are almost always marked way down in February. Just a few thoughts....btw, dear friends-- develop a good habit of resisting buying stuff. It looks great, but all too often we really don't want or need it, and wish we had our money back. Be wise in this, and you will be so much happier. I promise. I buy at second hand stores and yard sales at times, and it is pennies on the dollar.
Da_Moose: Alas. I come from this ideology....and it is capitalistic and materialistic in nature....nothing like saving 50 % off on something you really DO NOT NEED! Maybe someday a TRUE black Friday will come along,...where one has no money to even provide food for ones family arrives...
that's so sad when someone don't have some money to feed their kids or buy medicine
Black Friday refers to the day of the year when most retailers start making a profit. Black ink is used for positive numbers; red for negative numbers.
