If you look through the history books, most lessons were taught by evil men.. A certain Austrian dictator , who took a dislike to Jews , is just one prime example .
You can only teach someone who wants to gain knowledge... So, all the clever men are awfully clever but if no one is interested in what they have to say...there is no use of their knowledge...

megaladon: Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk..if you know who is it.
Definitely a good one if you're a Turk or descended from Turks. It would be pretentious egotism for me to answer Ataturk as an Englishmen barely if at all influenced by Ataturk. I would only answer Ataturk to self-promote the fact that I know who he is.
The obvious truth for anyone of the West is Jesus as he's the Granddaddy of every western teacher(even those who oppose his teachings). However, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing makes for the novelty-seeker who fights the obvious truth and seeks the oddball answer which will make him or her appear special or unique. The obvious truth is the mortal enemy of self-promotion.

Really??? Only a Turk can be brainwashed , in believing that Kemal is amongst the great teachers. Isn't the one when the minorities perished and eliminated under his sword.

A good answer. For one to be completely right about everything and another to be completely wrong about everything more often than not means that people completely ignore the former. People prefer knownothings over knowitalls as they can relate better to them, even though the knowitall doesn't know it all he just knows some things.
I wonder who has the right to classify one man as "right" and another as "wrong"...who is a Teacher and who is not... It is kind of naïve to believe there are a handful of Teachers just because these people were lucky enough to say something either not completely understood by the masses or something that applied to all the masses...

robplum: emmm some say Buddha Shakyamuni was the fourth Buddha to appear Buddha is a word in the very old Nepalese and Indian languages Pali and Sanskrit which means "Enlightened one". The word "Buddha" often means the historical Buddha named Buddha Shakyamuni (Siddhartha Gautama), but "Buddha" does not mean just one man who lived at a certain time. It is used for a type of person, the equivalent of a prophet, and Buddhists believe there have been many - that there were Buddhas a very long time ago and there will be for a long time in the future.
Maitreya Buddha
After a great many ages the life expectancy of humans will grow enormously and then slowly decrease again until the human lifespan is about a hundred years. According to the prophesies of all the Buddhas and his own promise, this will be the time when Maitreya Buddha will appear in this world as a universal teacher.
Never heard of a Buddha before Buddha Shakyamuni in my teachings, but when you consider he gave 84,000 teachings I'm sure he must be rated as one of the greatest ever teachers. It was Atisha 1500 years later who collected all the teachings and presented them in a way we could understand and follow. Know as the path of Dharma,(Lamrim,) Atisha's work paved the way for modern Buddhism. Atisha is considered to be a reincarnation of Buddha Shakyamuni.
