Unfortunately some mental illness presents itself in stressful episodes for all concerned. Some downright violent. At that point it becomes subjective to the person being attacked and leaves a very prominent memory. We would all like to think of ourselves as forgiving and loving but in truth many (including myself) harbor a serious distrust and yes "fear" of the illness and it's ramifications. If there is a proven track record of the ill person staying on their meds and keeping their behavior to an acceptable norm then trust can be rebuilt. It is no ones fault just human nature.
