Is what you want for 2007 necessarily what you need?

A question I have read recently. Thought it was interesting to put it forward to the fellow posters.

i think that what i want for 2007 is what i need, most definitely

i want a successful business, and the love that i have to last forever, and become officially permanent....i'll be spending new year's with duce and hopefully i'll be spending more than just 2007 with him as well.....

i think that a lot of people though have much different ideas about what their new year's resolutions will be though, silly things like losing weight or quitting the habit of smoking are made every year, but we never follow them....

Every year I keep a written journal in which I wrote things that happen to me, how I feel about them, and so on. I try to be as honest as I can in it. On New Years Eve I sit down and read it and then I burn it. While it is burning, I say the serenity prayer and make a resolution to learn from the mistakes I made, forgive those that made them, and continue on the right path. It has worked well so far.

That is a very good habit, I do keep a daily journal myself, and I found that it has helped me grow, sometimes I reread back my previous experiences and I find that enlightening, but I never burn them.

I've learnt to do that after a course i followed about Neuro Linguistic Programming

and I have also found the same recommendation in a book called

The seven habits of highly effective people by Steven R Covey

I will look for that while I am out today. I burn it to symbolize letting go of the past and starting new.

and the same author has a second book called "the eighth habit" which I just bought and started reading. Want to finish it by the end of the year.

It is true, burning does symbolise letting go of the past, I could light a huge fire in my case...
and I'd have to be careful not the burn the whole place down.
