I feel like that all the time. But in my particular case I'm worthless. Just can't seem to do anything right. Sometimes I wish I was dead.

If you're a person that likes animals, go to a local shelter and surround yourself with kittens, puppies, all the critters there. I guarantee you will feel better. Of course, all the other suggestions on here are excellent as well. I'm just saying for a fix, animals do it for me. My animals and my son keep me going in life. I have to care for them because nobody else will take care of them and love them like I do. I know that.

tomcatwarne: What about post natal depression then????

I'm fairly sure that happens at random.

The point is having something in your life which takes priority over your own morbid reflections. Parents are happier and that's a scientific fact. This isn't to say go and get pregnant by the nearest idiot, but entertain the idea of having something/someone in your life more important than you.

There is a vast difference between "being in a rut" and suffering from depression.

If you truly have experienced the latter, you will know.

Make some positive changes in your life, incorporate some exercise. Keep away from social media for a while....but if you're experiencing a continual low mood, despite making changes in your life, then I would recommend you see your Doctor.

SSRIs have the power to markedly improve mood, outlook, and behavior in people with depression. Although often positive, these same benefits can also be a cause of concern to many people. They may think that taking an SSRI will turn you into someone other than your own self? Most depression experts would say that when antidepressants are effective, they take away the negative effects of depression that mask your real self; antidepressants can reveal someone's true personality (rather than change it) by lifting the veil of depression.

It's not a bad Idea to talk to someone about it.

Some depression is just chemical, but a lot of times it can be environmental/circumstance driven. It's a good Idea to talk to someone, you may be suffering needlessly and not even need medication.

I might suggest getting outside more, as that helps a lot of people and you might try that thinking it will help but what I don't know is that you're not physically safe in your home or lack food security or something and fresh air/time in nature or more exercise isn't going to help you at all.

A good antidote to feeling worthless is to give, and that's something we all can do. Maybe try to find some voluntary work, that could give you a point to getting up in the morning and the opportunity to help others...it's good medicine.
