The UK is going to build a 13ft wall in Calais to block refugees from crossing the channel, the Government has announced.
"People are still getting through," immigration minister Robert Goodwill told the Home Affairs Select Committee.
"We have done the fence, now we are doing the wall."

Refugees living in French camps want to know how to reach the UK without breaking the law Paris to open first refugee camp in October Government secures enough local authority places to house 20,000 Syrian refugees
The 13ft high barrier will stretch for one kilometre along the dual carriageway approaching the port.
It is designed to stop refugees from climbing into lorries and other vehicles in an attempt to enter the UK.
Mr Goodwill also said: "The security that we are putting in at the port is being stepped up with better equipment.
"We are going to start building this big new wall very soon as part of the £17million package we are doing with the French."
Yesterday, the Archbishop of Canterbury joined cross party calls for the Government to speed up reuniting children living in the "Jungle" camp with their families in the UK.
The Most Rev Justin Welby warned of continual reports of delays in bringing across "really quite young children".
At question time, he said: "Where children have families in this country would ministers not agree there is no reason why they shouldn't be brought across within the day."
France: Protesters demand ‘Jungle’ refugee camp closure Home Office minister Baroness Williams of Trafford said many young children were coming to Britain very quickly and it was "one child too much" if a child had to stay in Calais for any longer than it should.
She told peers refugees in Calais should first claim asylum in France and insisted: "We all want the same thing for these children - for them to be safe and to be in an environment that's in their best interests, certainly away from the Jungle in Calais.
"This Government is working tirelessly with the French Government in ensuring those processes are expedited as quickly as possible."
The difference in EU immigrants and US immigrants, we have no shanties (tent dwellings) where the immigrants live. They all live is apartments or homes with family. Can't tell immigrants from regular citizens here in America, they just don't have legal papers.
More power to every country who builds a wall to prevent people from coming into their land/borders. No one built a wall to prevent them from from coming when they first came across as strangers into a new land.

I wish the American Indians had of taught of that. The UK will need one if Brexit happens from Donegal to Dundalk. Best of luck with that

You are so right on spot! ... but whether you believe or not in what the Bible speaks, God has spoken in His Holy Word, and no one can change what He determines. God has so said, 'the last will be first and the first will be last'... and we are NOT to turn away the strangers away from our borders, because WE TOO, WERE ONCE STRANGERS IN A NEW LAND AND WERE NOT TURNED AWAY! We are to care for the strangers who come to our borders as our brothers and sisters, in that, the poor will be with us always even AFTER those who are rich or comfortable have gone.

Yeah sorry Callie but I don't believe. But There's a lot of Christians who don't believe in this. I guess it's self serving, what people choose to believe from the bible or not. Either way I can't see a wall being built in Dundalk/Newry
hi sista callie...your missed out on one point......that nice man..the Archbishop of Canterbury....has said.that he is willing to knock down his/and all churches..to make more space to build more houses for said people......what a nice man....bless him.......

Would have been great had the Native Indians built walls around the land in America, there wouldn't be sufferings from all the different kinds of pollution and toxic waste killing people ... don't know much about that area over there... but who knows what's next with the so-called walls, nothing is impossible, Northern Ireland (Uk) and The Republic of Ireland (EU) border walls just may be next on the list, you know

Hey True, please tell the Archbishop of Canterbury not to knock down the churches, keep them up and turn them into homes for these people. After all, the church is the home dwelling (landmark) for the poor in spirit who will inherit the kingdom of heaven, so keep the churches up, this may be the closest many get into heaven
SistaCallie: No way! But they will need Mexican laborers .. Maybe the Brits will use the illegal immigrants to help build their wall or those from Poland
Actually the "wall" is a replacement for a fence alongside a main road, to stop illegally gaining access to vehicles crossing over to England. It won't be built by the British, but the French, but will be partly financed by the UK government.

Solution is so simple,,,,, Do not bring the children in.... Send the parents back to look after their kids...
You doing ok'ish until you brought god into it. Oh and the wall is to protect truck drivers from harm, as criminals keep trying to break into them.
All the criminals that try this live in the "Jungle".
So when can we all come break into and squat in your house? These violent criminals are not my brothers or sisters and should be deported back to Africa from where most of them come.
You are one very deluded person, but then again most folks that spout crap about invisible deities usually are.

Something has to be done to help the truckers. At the moment they're being harassed and attacked by refugees and if we catch a refugee in their truck we fine them £2000 as if they're people smugglers wanting the refugees to be there.
I can understand the fine initially otherwise truck drivers might start taking bribes from refugees, but it's not appreciating just how much the problem has escalated and how inhuman it is to now expect truck drivers to weed out every stow-away.

in fairness the picture is a tad bigger than the misfortunes of truck drivers who are being abused by the very "authorities" who allow and engineer these global situations

It's quite accurate Christianity and Christianity was made for local times and local people; medieval and earlier days where the chances of you encountering a foreigner - or even someone you don't know - were extremely slim. It's not made for the modern day where being free from prejudice and open to the world literally means inviting all of it.

Better to get a proper gang of Paddy's to do the job, coz if the Brits build the bloody wall you can bet it will be Government authorised EU cheap Labour on Zero hour contracts and fall down in a Month.
