It's now a Societal reality, the little Shops tend to close down one after an other.. How do you see these changes in your Country, what kind of Shopping do you actually prefer, the Boutiques streets, the big Malls, Super-Markets etc, or have you turned to a Virtuoso of the On-Line Market ?

Shoplifters are better hidden now. You take more risk doing online shopping than doing the real thing on the market, it just appears differently.. No orange flew on the merchant's stall but millions of people and euros diverted and stolen every day by the invisible Third Man on line, unfortunately !

I didn't realize this thread was still going---so, back-tracking a bit: I grew up in a very small town where there were small owner-operated grocery stores, called 'groceratia' or 'superette'. Now, they were all we had for the longest time, then a Safeway came in. I now live in a larger but still 'small' town, and we do have a few neighborhood grocery stores (no, not 7-11, Plaid Pantry types.....) that are owner-operated. But their over-all prices are much higher than say, Fred Meyer (Kroger, in some states) however, they attract a crowd because they often have cigarettes, beer, and wine for lower prices, and you can easily play lotto, etc...I shop in them occasionally, but tend to mostly go to Freddies, as we call it. The little stores survive because of convenience--they are usually strategically placed where folks seem to want them. Also, some have a single gas pump, another convenience. handshake

This thread was my first and only one, because nobody posts in the Europe section, and yes it was about shopping here. The habits of shopping on line may evolve, there is nothing like the human contacts...

There is a long pedestrian street (1km 200) i adore shopping in,especially with my daughter, we enjoy its beautiful boutiques but overall the cool ambiance. It's not rare to meet some of our friends and share a moment together, la belle vie, for sure !
