Romania has had dreadful hardship long before the EU existed. I think Putin is behind the riots and wants to put Romania under his Soviet boot again and secretly enrich himself with what little money they have.

By 1990 though poverty soared and now it has fallen a great deal. 70 % in Subsistence farming and others unemployed in roadless rural areas are a ticket to disaster. I still think Putin would love to get Roomania back but I bet it would bring much more suffering to Romania.
