Since Rush were there in the midd 70s using interesting time signatures...and never stopped pushing the envelope....
Talented guy in the video. I wish he would have given credit to Carole Kay who scored the bass in mission impossble theme and many other shows, movies and songs too..back in the 60s and 70s
Shes playing mission impossible bass cords @ 3:10 in this video...

Carole Kaye, was, is, and always will be the first Lady of electric bass, followed a close second by James Jamerson (the other prolific session player of that time)... I and every bass player I know have only the highest regard for her, but in terms of the video I posted, it was a reference to the time signatures that rush use, take for instance la villa strangiato, xyy, Cygnus x1, all play with complex times and the sheer brilliance is, it sounds so musical... Schifrins mission impossible theme is in 5/4, which is not as rare as you would think, Dave brubeck, 'take 5', Jethro Tull, 'living in the past', and tears for fears 'everybody wants to rule the world' are also in 5/4...amazing I thought that the Beatles played in odd times (can't remember exactly what), but I expected Genesis to get a mention with 'apocalypse on 9/8 from there suppers ready piece... Thanks for putting up the Rush track, I'm off now to listen to caress of steel, their third album...
PeKaatje: Ehhh, Annihilator is first, Rush second.
Thrash metal, math rock, djent, doesn't do it for me, that's not to say I haven't enjoyed some along the way Dillenger escape plan, system of a down, strapping young lad, Pantera, but it gets a bit too much without some light and shade in the music... Rush, Saga, Dream Theater and Hacken (to name but four) embrace lots of styles, not just in albums, but also within a song... I guess, it's each to their own....

Annihilator has several songs you might like, Never neverland, Phoenix rising etc. Not really trashmetal, allthough the middlesection of Never neverland is kinda rough.
At least it is medolic, and not like deathmetal, where you can't hear what they're singing, there ain't no melody, and often even the name of the band is hard to read.
I am actually an Alice Cooper fan, but trash and speedmetal are often very good in my opinion. Luckily everyone got it's own.

I'm a big fan of Alice.... Got into the band when they released schools out in 73, I ended up getting everything by them up until Vince disbanded the group, so, shortly after muscle of love.... But I have to say, I really liked the last temptation, for me, that was up there with killer and love it to death... I'll give annihilator a go, might be a bit like symphony x from what your suggesting...

Well, I was 10 when How you gonna see me now was a hit, and that did it for me. Now I'm 40 years older and still a big fan. From the inside, Goes to hell, Dada (which he didn't remember composing, recording or touring with at all because he was drunk all the time), Hey Stooped, Brutal planet and Welcome to (and two) my nightmare, are my favourite a.c. albums. First saw him live in 1990, touring and promoting Hey stooped.
