What do you think?

And, are any of the men's winning celebrations in any sport, would or are treated the same? Why or why not?

I think the whiners ought to shut up and quit b!tching. All these girls worked their asses off to get to this championship tournament. The object is to WIN. To the winner goes the spoils. If the other team doesn't want to get skunked and have their asses handed to 'em, maybe they ought to play harder and score some goals, but what's improper is chastising the winning team for doing what they came there to do....WIN.

Life ain't fair. Not everybody gets a trophy. Get over it.

The gender shouldn't matter. Whoever wins, wins, regardless if it's by one point or a hundred points. One team wins, the other loses. Such is life.

Its a gray area to me. No team wants to be humiliated but to be felt sorry for and not scored on out of pity? That's even worse.
Running up the score when you can easily just kill the clock isn't sportsman like though.

I think it's a hypocritical thing. Had the losing team won, wouldn't they celebrate too?

Are you sure they were running up the score? Even if they were, once again, your deductions are like the bugs in an old time cracker barrel.

Yes, they should always celebrate. They should be congratulated by the losing team as well.
I dont even know how you could run up the score in soccer. Were they supposed to play keep away? Then let the other team score?laugh

I didn't see the match, so I have no context on which to base an opinion. Celebrating in any way, shape and form? Totally appropriate. Celebrating as a point to rub it in the other team's face? unsportsmanlike, tactless and not showing the grace expected of every sportsman/woman.

I'm not sure if you read the link I posted but there wasn't anything distasteful or rubbing in their face. One of the US women even consoled one of the other teams teamates and gave her some advice as to not be discouraged and never give up while she hugged the opponent. Which I thought that was awesome sportsmanship.

Reading an article and actually seeing the match are two entirely separate things, in terms of context. Also, I never said the team in this instance did anything wrong? I said I couldn't give an opinion either way, because I didn't witness what happened. If there was no attempt to gloat, or rub their win in the other teams face, then they did nothing wrong. Hugging the opponent doesn't sound like the action of someone gloating though, So, I might agree with you. All I was doing was stating where the lines are drawn, in my opinion.

I agree with you and I didn't intend to give the impression you said anything negative/wrong so I apologize for coming across that way.
