PG&E will shut off power today and tonight to 179,000 customers in Northern California due to a fire risk from hot, dry, and windy weather.
This is the SECOND major public safety power blackout in California in two weeks.
In addition to the 179,000 customers in Northern California who will lose power, Southern California Edison is considering shutting off power to 308,000 customers, and San Diego Gas & Electric may institute a blackout for 24,000 customers.
(Note: a "customer" is a residence or business, so the total number of people affected is greater than the number of customers.

PG&E could shut off power to OVER TWO MILLION PEOPLE in northern and central CALIFORNIA this weekend due to fire risk from a "historic wind event."
According to PG&E, powerful dry winds will be moving into northern and central California on SATURDAY AND LAST until MONDAY AFTERNOON
The forecast calls for widespread winds of up to 60 mph, and peak gusts in higher elevations of 60-70 mph.
To prevent PG&E's electrical equipment from causing a fire in the windy weather, PG&E is planning a public safety power shutoff that could result in a blackout to 850,000 customers, which would translate to over 2 million people without power. (A "customer" can be a residence or a business.) PG&E says customers should be prepared to be without power for 48 HOURS OR MORE. #AgendaFreeTV
