PG&E to Shut Off
"Power to 800,000 Customers
In CALIFORNIA starting tomorrow due to a wildfire risk.
PG&E says the power shutoffs will begin Wednesday shortly after midnight and are expected to last at least until later in the day Thursday. The blackout will affect customers in Northern and Central California. A high wind event is forecast for parts of California Wednesday and Thursday, and wind gusts could reach 70 mph. These winds, along with high temperatures and low humidity, will result in weather that presents a high fire risk. The power shutoffs are designed to proactively prevent wildfires"

A number of years ago California had what they called rolling blackouts. They would would implement them when the weather was hot and the electrical generating capacity couldn't keep up with demand. They could cut the power to a small neighborhood or a city at their discretion.
The problem with the shortfall in power capacity was seen coming well in advance, and rather than upping the capacity to keep up with demand. They instead installed radio controlled power distribution boxes so they could cut off peoples electrical service in an instant.
I happened to live in a small town that was one of the last places to have the remote service disconnects installed. There was one right across the street from my house and my neighbor and I had a plan to cut the wire to the antenna if they ever threatened to cut the power to our neighborhood.

Be prepared California for a massive power outage that will affect 800,000 residents in 34 different counties. Today is October 8th 2019 and Once again the State of California is show significant signs of economic and infrastructure distress, sadly to say we are not talking about the immigration or homeless crisis that has infested the state. But instead we need to shine a light on a new topic. California Planned Massive Power Outages. Over the last couple of year California has had some nasty fires that have devastated residential areas, taken lives, and even produced a fire tornado in Northern California. The main electrical company PG&E Company was sued and found that their equipment was at fault for starting a few of the wildfires that California had endured. So, Instead of fixing the problem, which is PG&E Company equipment. This corporation, along with the state of California, has ok extreme measures to allow massive power outages to take place when they classify the weather to be unsafe, dry and or windy. A few smaller county in Northern California, specifically the area that was heavily damaged by the Camp Fire, in the weeks prior to today had what i would call a beta test. Residents received a text message a few days in advance, preparing them for the outage. This effected both those whom need support from medical machines and business that rely on electricity to operate. Today, October 8th 2019, PG&E announced it first Massive state wide power outage, reporting to affect nearly 800,000 customers and 34 different counties due to a wind event. This state wide massive power outage will state Wednesday October 9 2019 at midnight and are asking customer to be prepared for an extended outage that may last as long as 48 to 72 hours. (That means most people in California will be without power for 2 to 3 days. Of course you can go to PG&E website to check out their provided outage maps of the areas that will be impacted. From my understanding, this is going to effect California from their Northern region all the way up to Humboldt County and down to their Bay area region around Santa Cruz. However, I would recommend you doing this before October 9th while your power is still on and your internet and or phone services are still up an running. Residents are being told to prepare for slow driving, as the traffic lights will not be functioning. To fill up your gas tanks, as most gas pumps are electric powered. Stop by the ATM and take out cash for your transaction.

At least now, my relatives without power are finally with relatives that do have power.

PG&E Starts Cutting Power to Millions in Unprecedented Blackout

California power outage expected to affect millions

PG&E said it would begin turning off power to 800,000 customers in 34 counties (out of 58) starting after midnight Wednesday.

CALIFORNIA: Expected to have their power shut off starting around NOON on WEDNESDAY, Oct. 9.

Previously, the outage was expected to happen overnight.
The timing is being pushed back because high winds will arrive later than expected.
