HexagonKeySet: rather be 'Politically Correct' or just good ole fashioned 'Correct' in terms of facts / history etc ?
...hmmm.... that's the thing....
depending on who's writing the history... the 'facts' seem to change.

i'm not saying this is the best example... just one i happen to know...

as a teacher in BC, i had read the english textbook 'history' of The Plains of Abraham in Canada. Many years later, i saw the french canadian textbook 'history' of the same event. It was like two different events.

same with the history of First Nations in BC, the english version is entirely different than the First Nations version...

so it's not about being 'politically correct'... i'm more interested in actually learning the facts.

HexagonKeySet: So history has no meaning to you and it can be written / rewritten to 'suit the moment' ?
i don't want to rewrite history.
like with all the statues coming down....
i'd like to see them placed somewhere...but with information regarding actual historical events so they serve to inform future generations of what took place.

LeeCharming: I say it as I see it...at most of the time that is how it is....the truth vs political correctness...I'm no snowflake and want to know the truth...but a good number would prefer not to know...cause it might offend someone
respectfully, LeeCharming...
that would be 'your truth', and may be different than how someone else sees the truth.

we all are wearing our own lenses... and when combined with different levels of awareness or understanding.... the truth can be hard to discern at times.

Fair enough ...BUT ...

Statues that have been in public spaces, sometimes for a century and more ... don;t they invite discussion 'among the masses' to learn something about them?

Placing them in museusm ... well, what %age of people actually do visit museums and see them there ?

How informative is something if it's put in a place where few people look ?

i think you are right, about inviting discussion. and i'm not sure a museum is the place either.... i don't have the answer. i have wondered about adding information plaque to original site? i'm not sure... have to think about it some more.

jono7: weellll.... ya lost me there.. i stopped watching 'television news' years ago.
there was a time when television news might of been news...same for internet.
now one finds pretty much whatever they want ,to support their biases.

the exception to that, i find, might be the first few minutes of 'breaking news'....but still.... everyone's seems to have an agenda other than reporting news.
Great, you get 100 bonus points for not watching the CBC... 100 more if you don't vote for the Liberals, NDP or Green Party. You only need 200 points for a Trump t-shirt... best deal on the Net.cheering
