I suspect (I never use the word believe) he never died. While on the cross he was given a mixture of sour wine and Gall. It may have contained Mandrake Root "properly" prepared. Mandrake Root was used in ancient surgeries as a powerful sedative and, supposedly, dulled pain. If it was in the mixture, it probably kept him from going into shock, like an induced coma, The he was able to recover, enough to talk and maybe move about.
