snowlynx: Wow! I'm not trying to attack you, I'm asking genuinely because I want to know.
In what ways was it better and in what was it worst. I know communism had many achievements but I think you're looking at it through rose tinted glasses. You did not have travel freedom and that was not because of policies in the west, it was Eastern bloc's decision to keep it that way because they knew they'd lose their brightest and best if they let them leave.

If a country has to shoot people to stop them from leaving then something is clearly wrong. Do you really not see that your life could have been very different if you hadn't been allowed to travel?
Oh yes, you are attacking me, it is called passive aggression.
I sit here wondering what kind of satisfaction do you get from preaching people on verses that you have never read in your life?!
You need to stop and take a good look at yourself.
We still shoot at people who try to break our border control, it's called national security threat.
During the socialism we had enough of countries to travel to, rich culture and plenty to see there.
Greece was easy to travel too, Africa, Asia, and especially Japan (we've always had a special connection), Arab world, South America.
If you believe that Western Europe and USA are destinations to die for, well, they are certainly not... laugh

And yet tens of thousands of people risk their lives every year trying to reach the West.

Was everyone allowed to travel wherever they wanted? Or did you need permission?

Why don't you answer my questions as I try to answer yours? With you it's 'attack..attack...attack' at all times. Again I have to point out that your opportunities in life might have been limited if change hadn't come.

A lot of Bulgarian engineers worked abroad, especially in Africa and the Arab world, building factories and dam lakes. Medical professionals and other specialists too.
My family travelled by car around Eastern Europe couple of times.
Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Serbia.
It was not a big deal to afford that kind of travel, fuel was cheap and our currency was strong.
The West is an easy target now for illegals, you are too welcoming and give freebies, who would't want to live on benefits?

I don't need to justify the better life we had even without the travelling to your part of Europe.
We didn't have homeless and jobless people, families were encouraged to have more children and were greatly helped.
Anyway, you can not understand it. And that's fine.
I'd rather not travel than live in the West...
And trust me, at least 80% of those who now work in the West are building their homes here, in Bulgaria...

The engineers worked in countries that were approved of by the government, they couldn't just go where they wanted.
You had freedom of travel but only on your side of the Iron Curtain.

You were a young adult when communism fell, suddenly you had freedom. I've made this point before but you continue to ignore it. If communism hadn't fallen you might not have had the chances you had in life, the right to travel. You got lucky, it might not have worked out like that. You are looking at the past through rose tinted glasses. More exposure to the west would perhaps have made you more open minded and enabled you to judge your own country a bit differently.
Most people don't want to live on benefits here, that's a myth. Most people, including immigrants want to work and improve their lives.

I give up trying to put in your thick head that you are funny speaking about something you have no idea of.
As I've said many times it's a pure superiority complex. Deal with it.

Again you ignore it but it's still there, I'm just pointing out a simple fact, your life could have been completely different, why can't you even think about that?

There were plenty of things wrong about my country growing up, if I can see them then why can't you see the things wrong with yours?

Sorry to disappoint you about yoir back vision of my country but its not about me and my youth years. Generations of people have been happy building a good standard and a peaceful environment for their kids.
Everyone owed their home and land.
There was privately owed business too. Shops, coffee shops, bars and so on.
We had the Pepsi and Coca Cola and everything you had.
I'd say much more than you had.
Don't compare yourself to others. That's very wrong.
We lived a good life. That's all.
Freedom is a state of mind...

It is very easy for me to copy and paste the links to the hateful stuff said on here to the appropriate governmental and other organizations by email. You have been warned!
You bring shame to the vest top Karl. Did Bruce Willis save America, with that attitude. You're not fit to to wear the vest top.

teenameena: Always follow your “gut’s” signals! It’s telling you something is not right or going to happen!
2018, I applied for a job, all through the interview, I was having a "negative feeling and a "small voice" telling me not to take the job, even if they were to pay the salary I wanted. A few days later, I got a call, the job was mine if I wanted it, at the salary I asked for. I ignored the negative feeling I was having during the interview, and said "yes".

I should have listened to that feeling/voice back then, because it turned out to be the worst place I've ever worked, and I was glad when the contract didn't get renewed, even though I was partly unemployed for over 2 years after that.

Flash forward to a few months ago, I started a second job, because I have lots of "free time" from my regular job, on the 1st day, I started getting the feeling that "this place isn't where I should be", but I kept on going, hoping that I'll change, but the feeling kept getting stronger each time I was there.

I was thinking of continuing, hoping the feeling would eventually go away, In the end, I decided I didn't want to have the same experience as in 2018, I listened to those feelings/voice and told the boss, that I'm quitting. When I went away from that job after talking to the boss, I felt as though a "weight" had been lifted off my chest.......It's always good to listen to that gut feeling or inner voice.

I’ve had a gut feeling twice in my life and ignored it both times and got into trouble. Both times it was the feeling of being followed.
