Grandsiozzie: I'd like to see some more attacking- but just one small request from me. Can it be done in a tad more sophisticated manner please? The "you drink more, no YOU drink more- no you-- gets a bit repetitive.. maybe.

That's funny that you are asking that attacks are done in a sophisticated manner. I remember a post you wrote to me saying, "I will try to be less confrontational".

Yea, it was irony but snow got it.
And I have been less confrontational I think. At least I'm working on it.
ChesneyChrist: The difference between the English and the Irish is that the English have become more like Gollum, but Gollum was once a Hobbit like the Irish still are. The Irish are as civilised as the British were in 2003, they are the way we were before the fall.
Ches, I don't know how you always get away with saying what you are saying... I'd be crucified straight away. I don't see anyone objecting, hmmm, where's Snow, where's Deirdre? Thanks for explaining what everyone knows but doesn't want to admit

Ches doesn't reply to people on here...and is hardly confrontational. He is English I'm Irish, differing opinions are allowed when we are neighbours...not on the other side of Europe who probably had never visited our country We have had our differences Ten but I've come to realise it's best to leave you at your own game. It's just best to avoid certain people on this site...and you are one of them.
"While the genetic population is constantly changing, there are strong links to Russia."
“The modern-day Irish population can trace its origins probably back to a foundational event that happened in the early Bronze Age, 4,000 to 4,500 years ago,” Dr Cassidy said.
“It’s a movement in the populations from the Steppe region of modern-day Russia. If you’re looking for an origin for the modern Irish gene pool, that’s your foundation point.”

It kind of explains why you hate Eastern Europeans so much...
4000 years is a long time. You know what I think makes western Europe a little different, the disproportionate influence of coastlines down the ages. The coast is more than the natural place to have a border the sea is also great way to trade and exchange cultures and ideas, perhaps almost because the nation is secure in itself in its territory. It makes us think like coastal elites.
By the sea is what caused us to be open-minded and it'll look like our brains have fallen out from the perspective of Russia's deserted forests and neverending steppes. English itself is such a practical language, a business language where I think the frozen steppes are for groups of people incomprehensible to those outside. That leans towards the hills have eyes, ways that make sense only to itself.

It is a long time I agree. In other circumstances such a period of time would have made us proud, historically speaking. We are all a good mixture and no one is immune to being a bit of their "enemy" The seas we share or happen to surround us are as much of a of a privilege as being able to conquer inland. The East and West of Europe have it all. Proven to be civilisations that have set the norm worldwide. I might go in extremes to prove a point but after all we need to compare to keep our compasses in the right direction.

That's lovely Ten. That fat lump in Ireland, might not agree though
And I don't consider it a coincidence that Putin is today supported most by the Americans who went beyond the Appalachians. The same America that rejects the melting pot, the nation of immigrants, and the freedom of religion wishing to replace this with an orthodox church and a mountain of a man talking a continent of common sense.

If you go back for enough the whole world started from one tribe somewhere in Africa so I don't see how this is relevant. Nobody (that I can see anyway) hates Eastern Europeans. I'm glad the Iron Curtain fell and they could come here and enrich our culture. You are old enough to remember communism and what Bulgaria was like before it fell. If it hadn't fallen then you mightn't have had the life you've had with all the travel and stuff. You might not have been allowed to do that. Do you ever think of that?

No doubt. However there will also be the mainly young, urban and educated class who will want something better, if they aren't allowed get it then they'll leave en masse, a brain drain will occur. If you want to stop that from happening you have to shoot them, as in pre 1989.

There'll be some of that. Probably more of that from Russia than there is from China, for more reasons than one. China can do things that Russia cannot and the Chinese can live more like North Koreans than the Russians can. You could be forgiven for believing that in the far east we are dealing with not humanity but an advanced race of extraterrestrial insects.

Haha, no, no let's stick to Ireland and its gene pool. I remember how my country was during the Socialism, do you? Have you lived here? There was never a communism, if you have't grasped that yet, let me enlighten you now. My country was prosperous and rich. Free education, free health care, free seasonal holiday camps for the kids. Free sports activities and sport camps. I can go on forever, Snow. Please, just stop talking about things you know nothing about. Travelling wasn't impossible but it was not easy because of your side of the curtain too. Ah, and by the way, Deirdre has never been shy to make sure everyone know she can't stand Eastern Europeans. Fact!

Wow! I'm not trying to attack you, I'm asking genuinely because I want to know. In what ways was it better and in what was it worst. I know communism had many achievements but I think you're looking at it through rose tinted glasses. You did not have travel freedom and that was not because of policies in the west, it was Eastern bloc's decision to keep it that way because they knew they'd lose their brightest and best if they let them leave.
If a country has to shoot people to stop them from leaving then something is clearly wrong. Do you really not see that your life could have been very different if you hadn't been allowed to travel?
