Western Buddhism is a thing because we are in sync with the Buddha's time and place. Time can be like this. Closer in spirit to a time which is numerically further away. 2023 closer to 1939 than 2001 was to either. The Buddha was his civilisation turning against the old gods and we are in sync with that. It's inevitable for this to happen, as inevitable as winter, and winter has more in common with every other winter than it does with it's neighbours autumn and spring.
