With most of them, if you were to meet them face to face, 99% would be too mousy to engage with you. Its easy to hide behind a screen and be nasty, you don't have to worry about anything happening to you. In real life, a lot of them probably feel inadequate and unable to find any kind of place for themselves so they go online and take out their frustrations on others while staying safe. Makes them feel like they are in control and they are calling the shots.
I don't know what gratification they would get from doing that. Ugh!

There is no gratification, it don't make them feel better like they want it to, they are still left empty hence the repeating behavior. Abusing others never brings satisfaction, just a bloated sense of power and entitlement which is not the same as gratification or real happiness. The gratification they get is that they upset you, they want to believe that they ruined your day. And the more people write threads about how upset they are with scammers it gives them motivation to keep doing it. They could be 12 year old boys just wanting to raise hell with their boring life.
