So send a letter to your MPP. Don't get upset at Alberta for starting a new holiday. Personally, I work most holidays and often weekends so it matters naught to me.
Hey Snuggle..So I live in Edmonton, AB and even though it was a "holiday" today, I still had to work. It is not a holiday that everyone gets off because it is not a stat holiday. It is a day that if your company chooses not to work you don't. Unfortunately, I have never worked at a job that I was able to take it off. So in other words it isn't all it is cracked up to be. Maybe if the rest of Canada adopts this holiday it will be a day that I will actually get off.

They can have a family holiday coz they are super rich!!! they can easily afford to take a day off

In Saskatchewan February 19th is now a holiday. Family Day.
I had to work but double time and a half makes it a lot less painful.

LOL I was thinking the same thing 
They are talking about it here in the Maritimes as well about having a Stat holiday for February and I think they should. Many other countries have them why can't we right? 
To me this sounds much like the point i was trying to make in the "Equal Rights' thread...
Here is a province that has decided this is good for them, have rallied to pass the bill giving them this "holiday"...but everyone wants "equal rights" though it was only this province that initiated it...
If I'm not mistaken this province is also somewhat "tax exempt" due the oil production???
In any case Ontario houses the parliament, so what do get for this privilige?? Higher taxes, higher costs, mandatory multi-lingual signs that we fund....and though everyone gripes about it, no one really does anything about it...
How's that for equality???

Couldnt have said it any better Wikked..I will be writing my mpp about this and asking friends to do the same.I understand its not a stat hoilday but still.We have families too..Dont we ??

One of our local radio stations here in Winnipeg started a petition to get us a holiday just like they have in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Over 30,000 people signed the petition. Power of the people 
Um why not, each province can make there own holidays.
Look at newfoundland, they get holidays there 365 days a year, then come to Alberta to work.

EVERY day is family day, or should be if priorities are established. We need a special day set aside? Doesn't make sense to me, folks.
Smartive i can assure you that not everyone in Alberta is super rich!!! The cost of living out there can drive tears in your eyes and the cost of food and other things is right up there!
The holiday "family day" is just another day same as the civic holiday which not every company accepts and works on that day. It would be nice if the family day was a holiday all over canada but what can ya do!
But then on the other hand how many more of these "No real meaning" holidays do we need?
I mean there is a grandparent day secretary day earth day friends day and so on. What the heck for? Why do we need a SPECIAL day to honor and cherish these people or things? Shouldn't we do that every single day????
What a waste of time honestly. Lets stick with the basics such as new years, easter, first of july, remembrance day, thanks giving and christmas and the other holiday i can't think of and be done with it.
Make it equal for everyone all over the country and good is.

Why do they get there own Hoilday that no other part of Canada gets atleast i dont think anyone else does
