Did we exist ( somewhere ) before our birth in this world?

Some background,

To give you a back ground of this question, some people believe that they did exist some where and then they were born in this world and after the death they will move to another world. While the other believe that life is only limited in this world and it has no connections with past or future!

What do you think and why ?

This is, I think, a very personal feeling that some people have... and contradictory to what some Earthly Religions teach?

If you read the study into the subject, in the book "Is there Life after Death"....it would seem that according to what you expect is what you get.

Personally, I like the idea of an eternal Soul that gets reborn.

I wonder if, at this point, I might derail your thread…

If, for the sake of argument, I assume that I am capable of “thought” does this mean that I have a soul? Do I have a soul, or my mind just thinks that I have one? Is having a soul and the process of "thought" the same? I'm really confused.

Frankly, I’m at a point where I "think" that when I die I won’t bother about anything at all.

You are welcome. There is a special place for you..... they being made all the time... out there in deep space.... called Black Holes.
So, I do think, with your higher intelligence and options in life... if you realy dont want to be bothered going thru all this living stuff again... you know, the nappy stage, crawling, schooling, or risk being born in Ethiopia or Iraq or somewhere else.... then you just go into one of those Black Holes.

If They try and direct you back again, tell them I told you where to go...... and mention my name.

Good question!

Many religions like Hinduism believe in existence of soul and re-birth. According to that belief, your soul is eternal. Only your body is destroyed after death and your soul takes another birth... it depends on how u lived your life when u were alive.

It is possible that a wealthy prince in one birth became an ugly dog in the next birth because of some curse :) That is why they relate your deed (Karma) to your fate (past-present and future).

Very interesting topic. If you believe in God, you might be interested in exploring it further. The whole concept of spirituality revolves around this belief.

I believe we recarnate until we reach a level of higherself .I believe the ones that reach there are very few but the end of the road is that higherself.Example would be Mother Terresa ,Gandi ect. Some souls (most )keep on coming back until the learn what they must learn. Some never learn or it takes them many lifetimes doing the same mistakes until they reach the point to turn things around and go on to the next lesson. Many lessons to learn i guess.

Individuals who embrace the idea of incarnation and living many lifes in a row untill that final destination seem to be more aware of the choices they make and more careing of mutual wellfare. The decisions we make today affect us in the future and that future is everlasting in many lifes.

As for those who believe that this life is all they get, they tend to be more greedy (after all, this is their only chance, and what would the point be to improve oneself if he/she is not going to be around for so long) and less pleasant as life companions.

I personally find the concept of incarnation very inspiring in my attempts to be a better person and I choose my friends similarly.

Well, Thanks to all of you for contributing your ideas!

Most of the people participating in this thread agreed at one point, that death is just a transformation of the real man, and life continues in some form which we dont know yet. May be it is rebirth according to Hinduism or may be another birth for higher destination. It was also an underlying point that life is dependent on the relationship of body and soul. If we analyze the whole life, then we come to know that in body and soul, soul is real plus immortal and body is fiction and mortal. So, when I say I am, I point towards my body but rally I am pointing towards my soul.

Friends, we are alive because of soul. Soul is our reality. Question at this stage is that how we can know, feel, learn about our own soul. How we may recognise our true self?

Our True Self? Something odd was pointed out to me once.... ask someone to point to themselves, and their hand will point at their Heart. Yet we do our thinking with our Heads(?).

Something else..... As you get older, and very old eventually, everyone still, inside themselves, feels young. The mind stays young.... irrespective of the decrepitness of the body.

The words "I AM" are very powerful words. Take note of how you use them. In that Holy Book (sorry some folks about bringing in the Bible) there are instructions on how to use those words..... They create the life you bring to yourself.

Doesnt matter what he is doing...... Questioning Life is a worthwhile study, and can only lead to enlightenment?

These are questions that I find a lot of young people asking ....
especially these days, when nothing else makes much sense.

I think, it is a basic question. We acclaim that we know ourself. But, we can not define so called ''ourself''. Don't you think we should be aware of our reality...?
