For terminally ill people, to spare them from suffering constant pain......sure I'm all for it.......there are many aspects to consider obviously, but that's my opinion

there are two forms of euthanasia, passive and active euthanasia.
passive euthanasia being allowimg a person to die.
active euthanasia where assist in killing the person.
i have made up my mind on passive euthanasia and i am all for it.
but i have not as of yet made my mind up about active euthanasia so would apprieciate others opinions of this.

active euthanasia.....should the terminally ill person not be able to do anything themselves then they have to be assisted.....it's hard for a doctor to assist as it goes against their hyocratic oath......but the loved one or relative who has seen and been part of the suffering, in most cases for many years assists the euthanasia.....although illegal I'd want someone to do that for me were it the case........for me that would be the deepest love

I surely hope someone will do it for me if it comes to it!
And I figure by the time I get to the age when it would be "an option", it would/will probably be legal...

Well, not "it"... but you know!...blushing

I read an article on a woman's magazine about this. There was an elderly couple in UK married for many years and the husband used to tell his wife as they grew older "if one day I will not be strong enough to get out of my bed and reach for a book from that shelf to read it, I will no longer wish to live". Sure enough this man developed an illness and as he grew weaker and weaker he spoke to his wife and asked her to assist him as he wished to termiate his life. He left a declaration so she wouldn't get in trouble, he took tranquillizers, they kissed goodbye and when he fell asleep she tied a plastic bag around his head till he stopped breathing.

I am not sure I will be capable to do something like that especially to someone I lived with for so long, but since he didn't want to live in mysery I dont think the woman did anything wrong. Her point of view about all this was that she wanted to grant his last wish....sad subject really!

"to be or not to be"-but if it does not depends on you anymore,if are an entirely paralysed patient or you have no desire to live ,cause you have tumor somewhere in the body ,even meta and you are suffering endless -so what-will you still want "to be"?
It is very sad when something like that happens -but when we can't change that- I would say "yes"for both kind of euthanasia in cases written above,no matter for animals or for people .crying

I'm pro euthanasia.
I've seen a documentary about the whole process. About the phsycological assistence to the ill person and his/her relatives, people close to him/her.
The whole drama is absolutly necessary so people around the ill person realise the impact of it in order to understand if that person's life has gone far unecessarily.
When the only sign of life that a person has is the slight noise of a machine that connects to him...it is really depressing for everyone. There is no dignity in that and it causes much pain for everyone around and i'm sure that the wish, willness of the death of that person occures on his/her relatives minds.

What makes us live is the unknown of tomorrow, wishing things will be fine! If there is no hope, why live?It makes the person suffer because he can feel that most of the time people go there cause they pity him.Understanding this is painfull...roll eyes

tough question

For me -- I wish a swift death, coward that I am.

if I am in pain and suferring terribly with only 1/2 of a percent of getting better then I would wish to be euthanized.

As for making the decision about euthanasia for someone else, I would not like to have to do it. If it did come to that then it would have to be a shared decision based on the factual infromation from the doctor, of my immediate family.

I wish to never travel this path.

dunno

Wasn't there a case recently in Italy when a doctor removed the respirator from a patient - Piergiorgio Welby - at the patient's own request?

Now, would that be passive or active euthanasia? Did the doctor actively assist in the killing of Welby or did he allow him to die?

If I'm not mistaken, the doctor was cleared of any charges.

i think this is a very emotive subject; and everyone has a point of view or opinion; as do i; which i will keep to myself; but on this subject we talk of humans; as we already decide whats best for animals; but we r killing our planet too is this not another form of euthanasia ;

yes this would be a passive euthanasia in my opinion. and passive euthanasia is commonly allowed in law these days where as active is still frowned on especially with religious organisations.

Not quite. It wont be painless, if you see what I mean.

It is greed, death of love, murder of innocents and damnation in a Biblical sense.sad

"Damnation in a Biblical sense" ...????? Where is Euthanasia mentioned There?

In fact, come to think of it, there are all sorts of things that get blamed on "Biblical" excuses, usually by people who have never read the book?

Back to the Thread... I am all for Euthanasia, in whatever form. The Doctors and their Hypocritical Oath (note what it is called).. doesnt apply in this century anymore... the bottom line is Experiments and Money.

I had a son who sustained major head injuries... instead of letting him die in peace, they opened up his head and removed damaged pieces. He lived for 4 years, half paralysed, unable to speak, reason, or be motivated. In frustration he eventually became violent and had to be incarcerated in an institution, where he eventually died.

A medical professor I knew then was horrified that his life had been "saved"... she said if doctors cannot Guarantee at Least 75% recovery (which is not much anyway) a person should be left alone to pass on. Do the medical fraternity need patients like this to experiment on?

If the patient pushed it off with his tongue - would that be suicide?

Then the insuarance would need to prove it wasnt an accident - or? conversing
