Chouchou in french has different meanings but not too much to do with "putain"
"Mon chouchou" usually means "my favourite" (about a child as in pet) or my darling (kind of idea) about another person, but most people would probably say "mon chéri" or "ma chérie" - which would translate as my darling - when talking about their b/f, g/f or partner (but none of it would be used in formal speech)
in the area of Alpes Maritime.. Antibes and Cannes they told me ... its a sort of way they do call the looser girls ... so not needing to mention a name but then I had a English friend .. we where sitting for an aperitive and while paying a little coin fell down.. mentioning it .. she replied in her best french ..

A French friend of mine calls her guy dou dou whatever that means...maybe you will understand flower 
Most French people end up with nic names like DouDou if your name is Didier, Coco if your name is Colin, Pinpinor Pierro if your name is Pierre etccc. But most if the time is a double syllable like Doudou, Tintin etc

I always used to think that the term "Babes" sounded SO Nice .... a good friend of mine and her man called each other this .... and they were the Perfect Couple, the type that everyone envies .... good looks, good business, good cars, good health, very popular, etc etc. everyone wanted to be like them ........
And I just heard that they bust up .... a selfish nasty type bust-up, where he took back every single little thing he had ever given her, plus keeping stuff of her own, and she is now almost derelict and depending on charity to survive ... after 16 yrs of them working together building up "their future"....
Now... the term "babes" makes me feel ill. Actually, the endearment sounds are usually, I find, a sort of cover-up for something... I seen it quite often in life. Maybe just a simple shortening of a name, with a "y" added on, like you do with a little kid, is less threatening? than all the Darlings, Sweethearts,.......?

in - for individual; jou - for journey; pa- for partner and of course -love
in - for individual; jou - for journey; pa- for partner and of course -love
in French that would be "invopamour"
in- for individuel; vo- for voyage; pa- for partenair + amour
in Spanish that would be "invipamor"
in- individual; vi- for viaje; pa- for pareja + amor
Would go like this:
"Hi! Let me introduce you to my injoupalove!"
"Salut! Laisse moi the présenter mon invopamour!"
"Hola! Dejame que te presente a mi invipamor!"

first of all it would mean to put a name on something that every moment of your day is present and makes you feel good.. speaking of a loving relationship ..
why dont call it then a "lovingship" or even "lifepartner" (translated from German)..
in Italian it would be "relazione amorosa"
in Spanish "mi relacion sentimental" ..
in French as much as I know "le chou chou" se pour le puttain.. LOL its used more appropriately " relación du coeur" relation of the heart..
