You sure you spelt your post the right way around? Did you mean to put when is a Saturday night not a Saturday night or did I put my post the wrong way round

hi zellaronne no what i really meant is many things !.. to do with the social changes that has affected what use to be a good night out to look forward to every weekend ! for example the cost of alcohol has gone up about 20 times in the last 20 years because of taxes ( by the way i paid £3.50 for a small glass of coke when we filmming a nightclub recently ) if you look at what the everage person earns and what it cost in booze for a night out ( you don't get too many men offering to buy birds drinks now a days ) if you look at what use to be the most common saturday might out for couples dating >>> " yeah i'm gonna take this bird out to the pictures and then for a nice meal and then to a lively pub or dance venue afterwards .. and then lay in bed together for the whole day on a sunday " all thats changed now zellaronne because for 1. a night out at the cinema is now only 2 hours long in a small scren complex maybe with no warm up b movie to watch ( which is really gutting as a film student because thats how more advanced but low ranking film students or gradutes use to get they're films shown to the general public )!.. to cut a long story short if the average person is lucky enough to be able to afford a mortgage then most people can only afford half a night out at the pub ( if that )! and go home with a dvd and an indian or chinese takeway on a saturday night ! this is why i'm interested in people talking about the good ole days on a saturday nights when you use to be able to do all of these things and still pay yer mortgage ! and don't get me wrong i'm not talking about myself but people in general i can't wait to hear from from former teddy boys mods skinheads hippies hells angels goths tec etc that had themes in common or were parts of themed social groups that formed their own entertainment every week .chat to you soon love ::dancing:
Seems like a dream now, it was so long ago The moon burned so bright and the time went so slow And I swore that I loved her and gave her a ring The bluebird was high on the wing
Whatever happened to Saturday night Finding a sweetheart and holding her tight? She said,"Tell me, oh, tell me, was I alright?" Whatever happened to Saturday night?
The years brought the railroad It ran by my door Now there's boards on the windows And dust on the floor And she passes the time at another man's side And I pass the time with my pride
What a tangled web we weave Go 'round with circumstance Someone show me how to tell the dancer From the dance
What ever happened To Saturday night? Choosin' a friend and loosin' a fight She said,"Tell me, oh, tell me, are you alright?" Whatever happened to Saturday night? Whatever happened to Saturday night?

that was beautifull trish ! don't laugh and promise not to tell anybody ( promise ) but i don't know the words to any songs all the way through .. i'll learn the words of that from now on ! thanks
I dunno knbow about that. it all depends on where you go. Last sat night, I was able to get completely loaded at the pub for under 15.00 american dollars.
You can still have a Sat night if you go to the right places.
Hi Gilly, much as I would love to take the credit for having an amazing memory I cant. If you type a song title into google and put the word 'lyrics' after, it will give you a lot of choices and you can cut and paste anything ( well not pictures thats a bit different but is easy too) Cut n paste is one of the best things anybody showed me when learning bout comps - I only started using one 3 or 4 yrs back
That song, from the Eagles I also think very beautiful - they did it live when I went to see them and it was perfect - they sound live just like they do on their albums
Good points you make there Zellarone, I was going to say something bout the violence too. I remember being in a pub one saturday night in the mis 70's and a fight broke out, we were all very shocked by it but nowadays its just so commonplace and as you say, they have knives - very scarry.
I have a couple of immigrant friends and the amount of challenging behaviour they have to face if they go anywhere, even to the local shop on a saturday night is shameful and we live in a village so god knows what its like in the towns nowadays - i bet i would have such a culture shock if i went back to live in stockport
Hiya Trish. Yes people were shocked when something like that happened in the 70s. I even used to walk 2 miles home sometimes at midnite or 2am, Daren't do that these days though so of course paying taxi fare home is another expense.
Oh, there's 9000 immigrants in my area, I was out a few months ago in a pub and this lass said that a kosovan had put his arm round her or something like that but shes a real trouble causer anyway, so she starts going mad at him and these british blokes had a real bad go at him, to be honest I think it seemed just like an excuse to me to cause trouble. All this rubbish in pubs I can do without
Hiya, thats what happens on a smaller scale round here - it really disgusts me but, as you say, theres so many of em think its big in front of their mates, like the silly girl you mentioned.
I used to go down to the shabeens in moss side in the 70's and it was such good fun, we were discovering a new culture and they ours - i have no idea where this xenophobia comes from.
this I whole heartedly agree with, minus the fairs and weekend festivals, what is it I cannot do during the week that so many feel a need to do only on weekends??

Good thread G.
Saturday nights here have changed for different reasons. many of the cinemas have closed (some have been consecrated and are now churches) so there are only three places to go for films and they all show the same thing plus the cost is quite high. There are plenty of restaurants, bars etc. as this is a tourist destination and you can head off to St. Lawrence gap for salsa and a meal but here again, prices are geared for visitors (gouging and high, and much higher than they used to be as you say) and unless you have a car, it is difficult and expensive to get there and then get home. Violence is on the upswing here as well, and we now have our share of the homeless as people refuse to house drug addicted family members who refuse to stay in rehab and steal to supply their habits.
Most of the people I know do house parties, a meal, card or board games, get together to watch a DVD that sort of thing. Miss the old saturday nights!

hey trish what was these shabeens like in moss side in the 70's these are the type of things that i want to talk about on my other thread when we're talking about the good old days now theres an example in the 70's you could go out to a shabeen in london pay £1 to get in .....and they use to keep all the babychams cherry b's red stripe cans of long life in the bath tubs full of ice that they sold for 20 pence ! until the drugs and fu** up people with bad attitudes and wanted to fight people with knives came in ruined everything and stoped older people sometimes in their 30's and 40's saying i've had enough of this and stop going which left it all to the younger people who the most behaved ones said " noped i'm out of here " lefted it to other people , that always got raided and eventually stopped by the police . we always heard that manchester and birmingham were the most violent places for parties .. was that true ?

hi bajanblue how's evrything going over there i'm really looking forward to carry on talking to you about your favourite films and the british film industry but i'm interested in finding out more about what barbados is really like ? is it terribly british in every way ? where do you get most of your imports from cuba ? .. what is the government doing about these drug problems? do the barjan people love the queen and want to stay part of the commonwealth ?do you all watch american tv or have you got your own tv station ? do you listen to the bbc world service over there ?.. or do people say forget the british and just get on with it
